The 2017 Quicken Loans National starts on the 29th of June and is live on Sky Sports in the UK.
The TPC Potomac hosts the Quicken Loans National and is located only around 10 miles from the White House in Washington DC. It is hosted by Tiger Woods with proceeds going to his charity, although with him appearing in the news most recently, he will not be making an appearance. He will be there ‘in spirit’ according to Justin Thomas.
This course will be new to almost all the players, making it very hard to spot any betting opportunities based on course form.
It was previously named the TPC Avenel, and hosted the Kemper Open. Of the players participating this week, only 15 competed here 11 years ago.
However since then, it has enjoyed a $20m overhaul. The grasses on the fairways have been changed, new holes added, and those that remain have been drastically altered. Therefore even those 15 players will have little or no advantage going into this tournament.
As part of those changes, the course has been extended by 150 yards to 7,139 yards and par reduced to 70. It will not be such an easy course as it was previously, and hopefully will prove to be much more popular with the players.
With little or no course form to go on, we can look to how the bookmakers think the players will perform. With a pretty weak field, Rickie Fowler leads as favourite, followed by only a couple of other players before odds start to get much longer. Fowler, the only player within the top ten won the Honda Classic in February, but has not shot less than 70 since March. Justin Thomas, and Patrick Reed are the only other two players within the top 20.
Justin Thomas, only 24 has racked up three PGA Tour wins this year, and had an impressive performance at the US Open, including scoring a nine under par in one round. Reed also impressed at Erin Hills and is priced at 14.50. With the weaker field, there is a good chance a lower ranked player will scoop the prize money here.
