Paul Parker explains why Amad Diallo is Manchester United’s best winger

Updated on

Amad Diallo finally looks to have gotten his breakthrough at Manchester United, and Paul Parker thinks the Ivorian winger is the biggest attacking threat at Man United.

After an amazing loan spell at Sunderland, Amad Diallo returned to Man United last season, however, the winger still struggled to establish himself as a starter. Now, things have changed, and he looks to be one of the first players on Erik ten Hag’s team sheet.

We talked to former Man United star Paul Parker, who shared his thoughts on why Amad Diallo, in his opinion, is way better than both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

Amad Diallo always has a purpose but could be more selfish

Despite praising the Ivorian, Parker still believes he could be more selfish. The former England international currently likes what he sees from Diallo, but believes that the player could continue to improve if he was a bit more greedy.

“Diallo is a very good decision maker and doesn’t get caught in possession. He’s very unselfish. I think he actually could be more selfish than he is. There’s a purpose and an idea in everything he does rather than just hoping.”

“Garnacho and Rashford hope, whereas he has a picture in his head about what’s going to happen next. Everything United do in an attacking sense comes from the right hand side. He has to start.”

On the flip side, Parker criticises Rashford and Garnacho, but also mentions that Garnacho is good whenever he comes on as a sub.

We’re seeing Garnacho is best off the bench and Rashford had a good game for god knows how long. Amad has had to fight the fact the manager got caught up in something where has to play two in front of him. Now the manager realises that Amad has to play.”

“Rashford needs to keep his form up. In the past he’s let himself and his teammates down. At the end of the day his teammates are the ones that matter. If he worries about letting them down his inner self will get him through it. It will help him.”

“Garnacho’s coming on as a sub and likes it. He scores a goal and wants to go and sit down somewhere with his arms crossed. Trying to trademark himself. I’m waiting for the next few league games to see what Rashford and Garnacho will produce. A league game against Southampton and a Cup game against Barnsley isn’t going to cut it. To be the best you have to do it over a number of games which is called consistency.”

The jury is still out on Andre Onana

Andre Onana got heavily criticised when he first arrived at Man United, but the Cameroonian goalkeeper seems to have overcome a lot of the critics. Despite this, Parker still thinks there is room for improvement.

“The jury’s still out on Onana. There was an issue with Onana’s positioning for a couple of the Liverpool goals. His positioning for the Salah one was way off. Made it easy for Salah to score. For me the jury’s still out.”

“I’m still not sure about him. I still think he gives chances to be perfectly honest.  I didn’t want to hear it at the start of the season when he said he’s going to take more risks. After last season, the risks came because he was playing Onana without giving Bayindir a chance. I’m waiting because we’re only 4 games into the season. United isn’t being worked as much this season so there’s still time to go for him to slip up.”
