Vieira On How Arsenal Cope Without Saliba, Saka and Odegaard
With the pending visit of Arne Slot’s Liverpool to The Emirates this weekend, Mikel Arteta has to potentially cope without some of his key first team players including Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Jurrien Timber, Riccardo California as well as the big gap in the centre of the defence with William Saliba suspended. Vieira is dubious about Arsenal’s chances but believes the Emirates fan base can help spur Arsenal on during a time where they have their backs to the walls.
“It’s true that Arsenal’s squad is very depleted, probably too depleted to be able to meet expectations against a Liverpool team in resplendent form and currently looking irresistible.
“But the fact that Arsenal are playing at home, where they rarely lose, and with the support of their fans, and if they manage to be effective in the opposition’s box, I have no doubt that they will be in a position to score a victory that would be crucial to their revival after a few complicated weeks in the league.”
Arsenal Will Have To Work As A Team With Their Major Absences
Despite missing their key creative players in Saka and Odegaard, alongside Saliba who has been a defensive shield since returning to Arsenal following loan spells in France, Vieira believes Arsenal will have to work as a team to combat an in-form Liverpool side.
“The players will have to work as a team to make up for the major absences. This has always been the great strength of this club. No player should be above the institution. Each of the first-choice players will have to give their all to give themselves the best chance of winning.”
Liverpool Fixture Is An Important Turning Point For Arsenal
A loss for Arsenal would be a huge setback for Arsenal having already dropped points to Bournemouth, Brighton and Manchester City this season. Vieira claims the game will be a huge turning point in the season for Arsenal.
“Three weeks after coming from behind to beat Manchester City 2-2 in stoppage time. If they lose again on Sunday, Liverpool and City will undoubtedly go top of the league. So this is a very important turning point for Arsenal.”
