Haaland Pens New Contract: How Do His Wages Compare To Lebron James, Ronaldo & Mahomes?

Updated on

Manchester City have recently announced that Erling Haaland has signed a new 10-year contract with the club, which will keep him with Pep Guardiola’s side until 2034. The Norwegian forward has certainly lived up to the original excitement of when he first joined Manchester City back in 2022, after previously being on the books with German side, Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland has since gone on to score 111 goals in 126 appearances for Manchester City, and has won six trophies in his time with the club so far, which includes two Premier League titles. It seems a tough ask for the 24-year-old to make it a hat-trick of domestic titles, with City 12 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool in the top-flight standings.

The forward labelled Manchester City as a ‘special club’, whilst also highlighting praise for the club’s supporters, Pep Guardiola, and the coaching staff. He also expressed his delight at signing a contract extension with the Premier League champions.

I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club. Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.

“I also want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what.

“I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.

Manchester City’s wealth has been there for all to see over the last ten years, and they’ve no doubt spent a considerable amount of getting Haaland to commit to the club until 2034. But how does Haaland’s wages compare to some other sporting greats? Our team of betting experts at MyBettingSites have compiled a comparison table of how Haaland’s salary comapred to some of the highest earners in various sports from across the globe.

In terms of gross salary, Haaland is right up there with the length of the contract he's just signed, with the Manchester City forward being set to earn just over $300m in his time with the club moving forwards. But when it comes to comparing his weekly salary to other sporting stars, it's not anywhere near as high. Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto from Major League Baseball earn more than Haaland, whilst in the NBA, Stephen Curry, Jaylen Brown, and Jason Tatum all earn comfortably over $1m per week, which is some distance clear of the Norwegian international.

Looking into the football stars that are included on this list, Haaland is earning double that of Kylian Mbappe per week, whilst also being far clear of Lionel Messi, who now plays his domestic football for Inter Miami. Of course, there isn't any challenging Cristiano Ronaldo on his weekly wage in the world of football, with the Portuguese captain earning just shy of $4m, which will struggle to be topped anytime soon. Patrick Mahomes has a gross salary of $450m with the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL, which is significantly higher than Haaland's.

In the world of football, it's certainly a hefty salary that Haaland is being paid, but looking at the bigger picture when comparing it to other sporting stars, it's still a long way off some of the biggest names in sport. Haaland and his Manchester City team-mates are set to take on Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon, and they're priced at 3/10 on Sky Bet to come out on top at Portman Road.
