Reds could run riot

Liverpool, who have been the dominant force in the Premier League all season, have racked up more wide-margin victories than any of their rivals. The Reds have won five of their 23 league games by three or more goals while Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea have only managed four such wins to date. Their most spectacular win so far was against Tottenham when they stunned their North London hosts 6-3 just before Christmas.

Backing Liverpool to beat Spurs by a similar margin on Thursday appeals because they show no signs of letting up and Ange Postecoglou appears unwilling to alter his high-risk approach. The xG total of 5.63 that Arne Slot’s side produced in that league match is their largest ever recorded in an away Premier League match and still the biggest by any club this season.

The Reds have no reason to cruise to victory rather than keep their foot on the gas with a trip to Wembley at stake and a potentially less-demanding FA Cup tie on the horizon at Plymouth where the manager can rest several of his key players. Slot’s team have won two of their last three home matches by three or more goals and only a two-goal margin of victory would see a partial return of the stake in this instance.

  • Liverpool vs Tottenham Tip 1: Liverpool -2.0, -2.5 Asian Handicap @ 11/10 with bet365

Tottenham could pay the penalty

Only Bournemouth have been awarded more penalties than Liverpool in the Premier League this season and, thanks to Mohamed Salah, the Reds are a perfect six from six from the spot. Liverpool have had penalties in back-to-back games in the lead-up to Thursday’s game, which will be a massive test for Tottenham’s patched-up defence.

Postecoglou’s options at the back are limited once more by injuries to captain Cristian Romero, left-back Destiny Udogie, centre-back Radu Dragusin and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Micky van de Ven is not certain to start after coming off at half-time in his comeback game against Elfsborg, so new signing Kevin Danso could be dropped in at the deep end to make his debut. The Austrian has a tendency to lunge into tackles and the number of fouls he has committed since switching from a back three to a two-man central defence have tripled. Those traits could get him into trouble at Anfield, where the home fans will be baying for decisions after feeling aggrieved at Lucas Bergvall not being sent off in the first leg.

  • Liverpool vs Tottenham Tip 2: Liverpool to score a penalty @ 5/2 with bet365

Offsides on the cards

Liverpool are a class apart from Tottenham, as the league table suggests, and should be backed to win in a Bet Builder that also includes a couple of statistical suggestions. Dominik Szoboszlai can give backers a good run for their money on his shot total, having registered three or more efforts in his last four Premier League games.

The Hungarian pulled the trigger seven times in the Reds’ recent win at Brentford and may well take a shoot-on-sight policy into Thursday’s game. Lastly, we have added over 5.5 total offsides because there were eight when these clubs played out that entertaining nine-goal thriller in December. Tottenham are averaging just under two offsides per game this season but were flagged five times in their last home game against Leicester.
