Gunners worth opposing against champions

Arsenal’s Champions League dream was ended by Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday and to make matters worse, the Gunners must end their week by giving Liverpool a guard of honour at Anfield on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s men have been the closest competitors to Liverpool in the Premier League title race this season but are still 15 points behind the Merseysiders.

Their recent focus has been on the Champions League but mood in the Arsenal camp will be low after they lost the second leg of their semi-final with PSG 2-1 on Wednesday, failing to make the most of some early chances at the Parc des Princes.

Arteta looked particularly aggrieved by the result and could struggle to lift his players for Sunday’s match.

As for Liverpool, they lost 3-1 to Chelsea last time out as Arne Slot rotated his team, but they will not want to finish a title-winning season with a losing streak and they can respond with a victory, having won 14 of their 17 home contests in the league this season.

Salah can break the deadlock at Anfield

Mohamed Salah will reflect on the 2024-25 season as the best of his career, with the Egyptian having bagged 28 goals and 18 assists in this season’s Premier League.

He was on target in Liverpool’s 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham at the end of April – the result which mathematically secured the title – and he is worth a bet to score first against Arsenal.

And they could fall below that figure on Sunday given their difficulties going forwards and the fact that Tottenham had just three efforts on target on their recent trip to Anfield.
