John Deere Classic tips & predictions

Last week’s Rocket Classic turned out to be a birdie-fest and that type of entertainment is expected to continue at the PGA Tour’s latest offering, the John Deere Classic.

TPC Deere Run has hosted this event since 2000 and with -21 or better required to lift the trophy in five of the last six editions, a low score will most likely be needed to come out on top.

American Ben Griffin has been installed as the 14/1 favourite to land his second solo title of the season, ahead of 25/1 Jason Day and the 28/1 shots Denny McCarthy and Michael Thorbjornsen.

Sungjae to get back on track

It is getting close to four years since Sungjae Im last won on the PGA Tour but there have been signs this season to suggest that drought may be coming to an end and he looks capable of claiming the spoils this week.

The 27-year-old South Korean has recorded three top-five finishes, one of those coming at the Masters, while he was also tied-11th at the RBC Heritage, one of the Signature Events on the US circuit.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout is one of the best putters in the world and if he can tighten up his approach play, which has been inconsistent this season, then he could be in with a shout of lifting the trophy.

Springer could break PGA duck

The course record around TPC Deere Run is 59 and one of the two players to have carded that score is Hayden Springer, who held a two-shot lead after the first round last year before settling for a tied-seventh finish.
