Tough to separate duo in Basel
England have become the comeback queens in the knockout stages of the 2025 Women’s European Championship, firstly coming from 2-0 down against Sweden in the quarter-finals to draw 2-2 in normal time before progressing on penalties.
It was another late show in the semi-final triumph over Italy, with Michelle Agyemang netting in the 96th minute to force extra-time before Chloe Kelly bagged in the 119th minute after tucking home the rebound after her penalty was saved.
That determination and unwillingness not to give up has been a staple of the Lionesses in Switzerland, but they will know an improvement is required if they want to get the better of world champions Spain.
La Roja eased past the 10-player Swiss in the last-eight stage before then being put through their paces against Germany in the semi-final, with Aitana Bonmatí scoring the only goal in the 113th minute.
These two met in the World Cup final and it was Spain that came through that tight contest 1-0, with Olga Carmona’s strike just before the half-hour mark proving to be decisive.
England will need to tighten up defensively against a Spanish side that have been thriving in attack and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Sarina Wiegman’s side try to disrupt the play and put some challenges in.
With the nerves and the pressure ramping up even further for this final, neither side will want to make a mistake and there may be the need for extra-time and potentially penalties to settle the score.

Another late show from Agyemang
Michelle Agyemang is the definition of a super-sub at this tournament. The 19-year-old played just four minutes in Switzerland during the group stage, but she has become her country’s saviour in the knockouts.
The Arsenal ace has climbed off the bench to score in both the quarter-final and semi-final, notching the last goal in the 81st minute against Sweden and then bagging the last strike in normal time in the 96th against Italy.
Agyemang will likely have to settle for a place among the substitutes once again for the final, but there is every chance she will be called upon again, and she can grab the final goal in normal time.

Normal time not enough to decide a winner
Spain failed to fire on all cylinders in the semi-final win over Germany and the reigning world champions were almost knocked out in the dying stages of normal time, with goalkeeper Cata Coll making a brilliant double save.
La Roja will feel relieved to have made the Euro final for the first time but they know there is still a lot of work to be done if they want to dethrone European champions England.
The Lionesses haven’t been at their strongest in defence, conceding in four of their five matches, and they may struggle to keep a clean sheet against Spain.
However, England have shown a great desire and determination to get back into contests and if they do end up going behind, they will feel confident of finding a way back into the game. A 1-1 full-time scoreline looks feasible.
Complete this bet builder with there to be over 7.5 shots on target. This bet has landed for both England and Spain in regulation time in four of their five matches in the tournament.
