Southampton vs Wrexham betting tips

Our betting expert has three Southampton vs Wrexham tips for Saturday’s Championship match at St Mary’s Stadium (kick-off, 12.30pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

Saints to hit the ground running

Rated as the second favourites to win the Championship title this season behind Ipswich Town, Southampton are expected to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Highly-rated new manager Will Still has had the summer to work with his adopted squad and Saints look capable of hitting the ground running against newly-promoted Wrexham.

The Red Dragons have been on a tremendous journey up the football pyramid and have invested well over the summer to assemble a squad capable of not just staying in the Championship, but possibly pushing for a top-six finish.

On the back of automatic promotion from League One, Wrexham have been thrown in at the deep end with a trip to St Mary’s.

While Phil Parkinson’s side may find the back of the net on Saturday, it’s hard to see the Red Dragons heading back to Wales with anything to show for their efforts.

Expect goals on the south coast

While Still settles into his new role with Southampton, there might well be some teething problems with the defence.

Saints’ backline has hardly been water-tight during pre-season, as they have conceded in all four of their friendly games to date.

Eastleigh, Castellon, Espanyol and Brighton have all scored against the Saints, who in turn have scored six goals across those matches.

Following a 2-2 draw for the Saints against Brighton in their last outing, another game with over 3.5 total goals looks to be on the cards here.

Archer and Moore star in Bet Builder

Currently the pre-season favourite to be the golden boot winner in the Championship this season, Cameron Archer is well priced to open his goalscoring account on the opening weekend.

The 23-year-old struggled to shine in the Premier League last season, but the youngster should prove to be a threat in the second tier this term.

A danger in the middle or cutting in from the left flank, Archer to score forms one half of this Bet Builder, with Kieffer Moore also getting on the scoresheet, the second.

Joining from Sheffield United this week, the Wales international will add experience and his sizeable frame to the Wrexham attack.

While it might be too soon for Moore to start the game on Saturday after only just arriving at the club, the 32-year-old could be used to impact the match from the bench and it would be little surprise to see the veteran find the back of the net this weekend.
