Wolves vs Man City betting tips

Our betting expert has three tips for the Premier League showdown between Wolves and Manchester City from Molineux on Saturday (kick-off 5.30pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

Old Gold can shine against early City pressure

Manchester City return from a short pre-season to head to Wolves where the former champions do not make a great deal of appeal at a short price.

City, third last term in a season mired with disappointments, go again after a poor Club World Cup and just one friendly, last week’s 3-0 win over Palermo.

Pep Guardiola has the usual job juggling a huge squad though he is helped by a few absentees. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, two of those missing – Rodri and Mateo Kovacic – are key midfielders in an area of the field where City might not now be able to exert total control.

Guardiola has big calls to make and a group probably not quite match-ready, though they would still expect to win at Molineux, where they triumphed 2-1 last season.

That match was all-square at the break and there is a better than 6/4 chance that this one is level after 45 minutes as well.

Certainly City may well take some time to get up to speed and Wolves, who have sold Rayan Ait-Nouri to the Citizens and also lost Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, might see this as a decent time to be taking on the fallen champs.

Not that their pre-season has been particularly pretty with no wins from six.

This looks like it could be a scratchy, edgy affair between two sides slightly off the pace and could end up closer than the odds suggest. Certainly the first-half might turn into a flat affair.

Larsen to give mate Haaland a run

Jorgen Strand Larsen had a superb first season with Wolves, his 14 goals a key reason why they were able to stay out of relegation danger.

The Norwegian, who scored in the 2-1 loss to City in October, saved his best to last in 2024/25 with seven goals in his last nine.

On a pitch where another Norwegian, Erling Haaland, is deemed the major goal threat – and statistically few would dispute that’s the case – Larsen can have an impact.

Whether he can find the net is one thing but he looks a nice price to at least hit the target.

Tijjani to make his mark on City debut

While there should be genuine hope among the Wolves faithful that they can trouble this under-cooked City, it’s clear most of the chances are going to be piled up by the visitors.

And in Tijjani Reijnders they have a newcomer who looks lively enough in and around the box to have at least one effort on target.

The Dutch attacking midfielder struck twice against Palermo and, given the amount of ball City will see, he will surely try his luck a few times at Molineux.

Wolves won five corners when they visited the Etihad in May, a 1-0 loss. They should be able to clock up at least four at home.

And to complete the bet builder, over two Wolves cards. They picked up four in the home game against City last season and they will spend long periods on the back foot defending for their lives.
