There is plenty of top-class racing on terrestrial television this Saturday with Group action coming from Newbury and some competitive handicaps also featuring from Ripon and Newmarket.
Newbury’s action includes the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes and there’s a competitive handicap that precedes the big race over the same course and distance.

Lethal Levi took this out on his way to Ayr Gold Cup glory last season and this year’s renewal is possibly even deeper, but one that looks worthy of supporting each-way is Cracking Gold.
He kicked off his career with back-to-back seven furlong victories and didn’t quite kick on as expected over a mile subsequently. However, this son of Havana Gold has got right back on track down in distance over seven furlongs recently, leaving the impression he may be a specialist over the trip.
He was dropping in distance when winning at Newmarket on his penultimate start behind Great Acclaim and while that rival reversed the form at Glorious Goodwood, he was only beaten a neck in one of the most competitive handicaps of the week.
That form is already starting to look red hot with Great Acclaim going in again in a valuable Racing League handicap in the interim so a 3lb rise for Cracking Gold’s Goodwood effort can certainly be considered lenient with the benefit of hindsight.
From stall four, David Probert will have options and he should get a decent tow into the race from the likely front-runner, Classic (stall 6) so expect a big run on his preferred ground conditions.

15:20 Ripon – Rousing Encore
The Great St Wilfrid is the big race of the day at Ripon on Saturday afternoon and Rousing Encore ran a cracker to be beaten less than a length in a mightily competitive handicap at York when last seen.
He needs them to go hard in front but there’s every chance of that in this contest and Jimmy Sullivan who retains the ride, excels on these types.
If Rousing Encore takes to Ripon, there has to be a chance he can justify the market support that has already arrived in the build up to the race.

15:35 Newbury – King’s Gamble
Ralph Beckett’s yard seems to really excel towards the back end of the summer and the trainer has been amongst the winners in recent weeks. He saddles King’s Gamble who couldn’t have been much more eyecatching behind Rage Of Bamby in a six furlong Group 3 here last month.
He’s taken to reverse that form with this step up in trip surely in his favour given that he was only narrowly denied over a mile on his penultimate outing and he’s less exposed than most of the rivals he faces now.
