Man City vs Tottenham betting tips

Our betting expert has three Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur tips for Saturday’s Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium (kick-off, 12:30). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

New look City to back up impressive start

If ever a team wanted to make a statement after a season of disappointment, Manchester City’s 4-0 away win on the opening weekend is certainly the way to do it.

There are big question marks hanging over Pep Guardiola’s men after last season’s trophyless campaign, but there were plenty of positives from their win at Wolves.

After losing the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Jack Grealish during the summer and with the likes of Rodri and Ederson missing, it was a much-changed side that took to the pitch at Molineux.

Two of the summer signings, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, got their name on the scoresheet while another new face, James Trafford, secured a clean sheet.

It wasn’t a vintage Manchester City display but there was enough to suggest they are on the right track, although Spurs will offer a sterner test.

Tottenham enjoyed a 4-0 win at the Etihad last season and have lost just once in their last four visits to the blue side of Manchester.

New boss Thomas Frank has also enjoyed success there with Brentford, who recorded a 2-1 victory over Guardiola’s men in November 2022.

Spurs head to the north west this time off the back of a confidence-boosting 3-0 victory over Burnley and will feel they can cause the hosts problems at the back.

Expect a lively second half

It’s worth noting that there have been plenty of goals in the recent encounters at the Etihad, with 21 scored in their last four meetings between these two teams at City’s home ground.

It took Guardiola’s men a bit of time to get going at Wolves and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tottenham look to frustrate them in the first half.

Spurs got a goal after 10 minutes against Burnley but didn’t really threaten again until after the break, when they went on to find the net twice more.

Of the 21 goals scored in those last four Etihad meetings, 12 of those have come after half-time.

Romero faces ultimate Haaland test

Despite not hitting the heights of previous campaigns, City still enjoyed the second best home record in the Premier League last term.

Guardiola’s men lost just three of their 13 matches at the Etihad, collecting 42 points, with only champions Liverpool taking more.

A total of 11 yellow cards have been racked up across the last three league encounters between City and Spurs in Manchester.

Christian Romero is one of those to have been booked and sent off previously against City and the Spurs skipper could be in for another tricky afternoon.

Even though Spurs will look to protect their goal with three centre-backs, with Erling Haaland back firing then Tottenham could have some last-ditch defending to do.

There was plenty of speculation that Bernardo Silva may move on in the summer, but he was handed the captain’s armband at Wolves.

The Portuguese ace, in his eighth year at the Etihad, looked fresh and intent on causing problems in the final third.
