Ayr Gold Cup Festival Betting Tips
The third and final day of Ayr’s Gold Cup meeting takes place on Saturday afternoon and there’s a bumper eight-race card to get stuck into.
The feature race is at 3.35 and the consolation race to the Ayr Gold Cup also features as one of the races of the day.
We have picked out a trio of selections to follow at Ayr on Saturday and they all could represent some each-way value.
2.25 Ayr – Silky Wilkie
The consolation race for the Ayr Gold Cup is always just as competitive as the feature and it’s often won by a horse with a fair amount in hand from a handicapping perspective.
One that has plenty in hand currently is Silky Wilkie, who hit the crossbar in a remarkable 1-2-3 finish for his trainer in the Ayr Gold Cup last season.
He’s come down the handicap with good reason in the interim, having completely lost his way much earlier in the season, but he’s now a whopping 14lb below last year’s mark when he was runner-up over course and distance.
The son of Mehmas left the impression he was on his way back to form when third in a mightily competitive handicap on the Knavesmire a couple of weeks ago and he shaped like he was in need of that run.
The return to six furlongs is another factor in his favour and, while stall one on the wing is a bit of a negative, there’s plenty of pace drawn low with Gweedore and Sergeant Wilko likely to make it a genuine gallop.
If he does come on for that first run in four months, there’s every chance he’ll be firmly in the mix.

3.35 Ayr Gold Cup- Hammer The Hammer
Kevin Ryan has a superb record in the Ayr Gold Cup and he saddles Hammer The Hammer, who looks like the brightest of sprint prospects.
He made light work of a Chester handicap before a narrow defeat at Royal Ascot and the ground went against him when failing to show his best in the Stewards’ Cup last time out.
That run is worth forgiving and there’s a suspicion this colt won’t be knocking around in handicaps much longer given his lofty rating and he looks capable of outrunning his double figure odds.

5.15 Ayr – Silent Move
The case for Silent Move is a fairly obvious one having met a load of trouble in running at Thirsk last time out. He was unlucky in-running at Carlisle when runner-up on his penultimate outing.
He now gets the services of top apprentice Warren Fentiman, who has looked like cracking value for the 5lb he can still claim in recent times.
His mount has become well treated on old form, so expect a bold bid for Richard Fahey, who gets plenty of winners at this meeting.
