Ryder Cup Betting Tips

Luke Donald’s dozen are virtually the same team that triumphed 16.5-11.5 in Rome two years ago, but anyone expecting them to deliver anything that emphatic is probably going to be disappointed.

Team USA are out for revenge and captain Keegan Bradley has six of the top eight players in the world at his disposal this weekend.

Europe may need another miracle

The USA have dominated recent home Ryder Cups, winning three of the last four, with Europe’s dramatic 2012 ‘Miracle of Medinah’ the lone exception.

That 14.5-13.5 comeback remains a rare triumph on American soil, where the hosts have averaged a five-point winning margin across those four events.

Europe have been similarly dominant at home, winning their last four Ryder Cups as hosts by an average of 4.5 points, highlighting how difficult it is to win away in this fiercely contested biennial showdown.

Bethpage Black, this year’s venue, plays perfectly into American strengths. The course favours long driving and aggressive iron play, traits that define the home team.

Bradley has leaned into that identity, selecting power hitters like Sam Burns and Cameron Young, while Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele arrive in top form.

Europe retain almost all of their victorious 2023 squad, including Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland, but the challenge of adapting to Bethpage’s brutal layout and handling the intensity of a New York crowd could prove too much.

With home advantage, course set-up and momentum on their side, it’s easy to see why the USA enter as favourites and they are worth backing to secure a winning margin of more than two points.

Rahm can rival Rory for Europe’s top points scorer

McIlroy remains the driving force of Team Europe, having led from the front in Rome two years ago with four wins from five matches.

He’ll be fancied to do just as well this week, but Rahm poses a serious challenge to the Northern Irishman’s prospects of being the team’s top points scorer again.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a stellar 2025, posting top-10 finishes in 12 of 13 LIV Golf events and two Majors, while his powerful game suits Bethpage Black’s demanding layout.

Rahm also outperformed McIlroy the last time the Ryder Cup was held Stateside, underlining his ability to thrive in hostile conditions.

He could gain a further edge if he’s paired consistently with Tyrrell Hatton. The duo combined for two points in Rome and share chemistry from their LIV Golf partnership.

Bradley will want world’s best to set the tone

Scheffler has been the dominant force in professional golf over the past few years and he is set to take a leading role for the United States this week.

As the reigning US PGA and US Open champion, Scheffler’s status as the leading player on the home team is hardly in doubt, while he also earned more than double the Ryder Cup points of any other American.

Zach Johnson sent him out first in the singles two years ago when he halved his match against Rahm and it would be a surprise to see any other name at the top of Bradley’s line-up on Sunday.

The captains will want their best players out early to set the tone for the decisive final day and Scheffler’s record in singles is solid enough for the move to make sense.

Although he has lost his last two singles matches at the Presidents Cup, the world number one is unbeaten in two final-day matches at the Ryder Cup, with a win over Rahm in 2021 and the half in their rematch two years ago.
