Both teams can continue momentum
Any Tottenham fan would have been more than happy to sit third in the Premier League after seven matches, especially with the team working with a new manager.
Thomas Frank has been quick to get his plan across to the Spurs squad and despite significant injury absentees, there have been plenty of positive signs.
The Lilywhites, who finished 17th last term, have lost just one league game to date and have averaged 1.85 goals per game.
One concern for Spurs backers though will be their form on home turf, having collected just four points from a possible nine in their three matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Villa arrive in the capital on a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions – a run that has seen them move out of the bottom three in the Premier League.
Unai Emery’s men are looking for their first league win on the road, with two draws and one defeat in their first three away games.
Rogers a big factor in Villa turnaround
Three points from their first five matches had people scratching their heads as to why Villa were struggling so badly, despite keeping most of their squad intact in the summer.
Since their draw at Sunderland in mid-September, the Midlanders have won two league games and two Europa League matches.
One of the main reasons for the upturn has been the form of Morgan Rogers, who looks highly likely to be part of England’s squad at next summer’s World Cup Finals.
The 23-year-old has yet to score for Villa this season, but he has two assists to his name and did find the back of the net in England’s recent 3-0 friendly win over Wales.
It’s also worth noting that Rogers scored twice against Spurs last season, including Villa’s only goal in their 4-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Romero could face stiff Watkins test
Ollie Watkins was forced to leave the England squad early due to injury, but Thomas Tuchel pointed out that he could feature for Villa at the weekend.
If so, the in-form striker, who loves to run the channels, could give Spurs skipper Cristian Romero a tough afternoon.
The Argentinian already has three cautions to his name this season and was booked in this fixture last season.
Six of the last seven meetings between these two sides have seen three or more cards, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see referee Simon Hooper putting his hand in his pocket on multiple occasions.
It’s also worth noting that of the 13 Premier League goals Tottenham have scored so far this season, eight have been scored after the half-time break.
