Liverpool vs Aston Villa betting tips

Our in-house experts have selected three top betting tips ahead of this keenly anticipated contest, using all the relevant facts and stats to guide their picks.

Expect the visitors to take at least a share of the spoils

Liverpool’s rapid fall from grace has been well-documented of late, as the crisis at Anfield seemingly worsens with every passing week.

After winning each of their opening five Premier League fixtures, the Merseysiders have now suffered four consecutive defeats thanks to a series of underwhelming performances.

A 5-1 hammering of Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany brought some temporary relief in the Champions League, but Wednesday’s loss to Crystal Palace – the third time they’ve been beaten by the Eagles already this term – would have had a sobering effect.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have been quietly improving following a torrid start to the new campaign. The West Midlanders have now won four Premier League contests on the bounce, after amassing just three points from their first five outings.

Although they were surprisingly beaten by Dutch outfit Go Ahead Eagles in their last Europa League encounter, the Villains appear to have turned a corner.

While Liverpool should still be respected in their capacity as reigning Premier League champions, Arne Slot undoubtedly has his work cut out.

Given each opponent’s current trajectory, a home triumph seems the most unlikely of the three possible outcomes.

A potentially low-scoring affair

Although recent results have served to further expose their vulnerabilities, Liverpool have been far from firing on all cylinders since the beginning of the season.

The Reds have only netted on eight occasions at Anfield in the Premier League, with four of these goals coming in the opening weekend clash with Bournemouth. Constant chopping and changing in the final third hasn’t helped, as Kop hero Mohamed Salah, record signing Alexander Isak, and early summer arrival Hugo Ekitike continue to be used interchangeably.

Aston Villa’s first four league away matches have produced just six goals, a statistic aided by a drab 0-0 stalemate at Everton’s newly-constructed Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Only three English top-flight sides have scored on fewer occasions than Villa, all of whom currently occupy places in the relegation zone.

Corner counts and Cody’s capabilities

Liverpool and Aston Villa have taken exactly 49 corners each on Premier League duty this term, an average of just over five per match.

More than 10 corners were awarded in each of last season’s meetings between these two opponents, with eleven given at Anfield and a further 14 dished out during February’s return fixture in the West Midlands.

One man renowned for his dangerous set-piece deliveries is Cody Gakpo, who is also equipped with a fearsome right foot.

The dynamic Dutchman has registered a whopping 17 shots in his nine league appearances, with only four players in the division unleashing more attempts at goal.

Furthermore, Gakpo has netted three times throughout October, finding his way onto the scoresheet against Chelsea and Manchester United before extending Liverpool’s lead over Eintracht Frankfurt at the Waldstadion.

Why not leverage these two pieces of information to create an attractive two-fold bet builder.
