Los Blancos can bring Reds back down to earth
Liverpool ended a run of four straight defeats in the Premier League on Saturday night as they beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield to ease the pressure on manager Arne Slot.
The defending Premier League champions have lost six of their last eight games in all competitions and they remain seven points behind league leaders Arsenal after the first 10 matches of the new season.
In Europe, the Reds have fared slightly better, winning two of their first three matches. After Saturday’s success, Slot’s men would have loved to build more momentum, but they face the daunting task of facing Real Madrid.
Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso returns to Anfield after guiding his team to six successive wins in all competitions. The Spanish giants have only lost one of their 14 matches this season, winning the other 13.
After he overhauled his squad in the summer, Slot has struggled to get his team firing defensively and they should be picked apart by the in-form La Liga champions.

European giants to trade blows at Anfield
Liverpool’s inconsistent results this season can be put down to their inability to defend, as their attack is still as potent as ever.
While selection headaches have troubled Slot due to the wealth of options at his disposal, his team are still clicking at the business end of the pitch.
The Reds have played eight times at Anfield this season, scoring in seven of those ties and they have scored two or more goals in five of those fixtures and they should be able to get themselves on the scoresheet.
Alonso’s side have only conceded one goal so far in Europe, but they have not faced a team of Liverpool’s quality in the League Phase.
The only blemish on their record this season was a 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in September, but they head into Tuesday’s tie on the back of a 4-0 win over Valencia.
Alonso’s troops have had no issue finding the back of the net on the road this season, having scored two or more in five of their six away matches.
Both managers have a wealth of attacking talent at their disposal, so expect a thrilling affair on Merseyside.
Visiting forwards to enjoy the occasion at Anfield
It is hard to look past Kylian Mbappe in the anytime goalscorer market this week as he comes into the game in immense form.
The France international has registered 23 shots in Europe, with 14 of them hitting the target and he has netted five goals in three outings.
In La Liga, he has scored 13 times in 11 matches and his speed and eye for goal will be tough to stop, especially when considering how exposed Liverpool have looked this season.
Winger Vinicius Jnr. has scored five goals and grabbed four assists in the league and he should be able to continue his fine record against the Reds. He has scored five times and secured two assists in only five appearances against the English giants.
Mohamed Salah is slowly finding his rhythm again after netting in back-to-back games for the Reds, so it would be no surprise to see him at the forefront of everything Liverpool do in the final third.
Real midfielder Arda Guler has chimed into his team’s attacks on many occasions this season and he should be able to test Reds goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, having had 19 shots in La Liga this season, with eight of them hitting the target.
The Turkey international has scored three times this season and will fancy his chances against Slot’s back four.
