12.50 Newcastle
With an official rating of 135, expect Zanndabad to be a tough nut to crack in the Class 2 novice hurdle on Newcastle’s card.
This son of Iffraaj chased home a nice prospect in a Galway Festival maiden hurdle earlier in the year before two creditable runs on the level in highly competitive handicaps from marks in the low 90s.
He showed how well handicapped he was when returned to this sphere when bolting up in a handicap hurdle at Sedgefield last month.
He’s now rated in the mid 130s and while handicaps could be a tough ask from that sort of mark going forward, he sets a rock solid standard back in novice hurdle company.
This race is full of potential improvers but they have more than a stone to find with Zanndabad and this looks like a cracking opportunity for the Irish raider trained by the shrewd Tony Martin.

1.25 Newcastle
Another horse at Newcastle with a potential class edge over his rivals on Saturday is Tommie Beau in the staying chase on the card.
Seamus Mullins’ stable star hasn’t fully fired in two recent runs but he’s been highly tried and he didn’t shape too badly in the Badger Beer at Wincanton last time out.
He’s come down another 3lb for that run and he now lurks 9lb below the mark he finished second off at the beginning of the season at Fakenham when chasing home Le Milos.
There’s also a suspicion that he has untapped potential at this sort of distance so expect him to run well dropping in grade here.

2.55 Newbury – Coral Gold Cup
Newbury’s feature race looks like a good opportunity for an each-way bet with extra places on offer and Panic Attack edges the vote.
This nine-year-old mare is a lightly raced chaser who looked like she had improved a bundle when winning a competitive handicap chase on her return at Cheltenham’s November meeting, shaping like she would relish another crack at this distance.
There’s every chance she can come on for that first run in 280 days and she only has to carry a 4lb penalty for that success, meaning she’s 3lb well-in on official figures.
There’s no stopping Dan Skelton so far this season and he may be able to take another step towards his first trainers’ title with this talented mare.
