Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Betting Tips

Our betting expert has three Crystal Palace vs Tottenham tips for Sunday’s Premier League clash at Selhurst Park (kick-off 4.30pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

Palace to heap more woe on Spurs

Crystal Palace have struggled under the weight of a busy schedule recently but they can secure a much-needed win at home against out-of-form Tottenham on Sunday.

Palace’s defeat on penalties at Arsenal in the EFL Cup on Tuesday was their fourth game in 10 days and, significantly, was also their third loss in that damaging run.

However, ahead of the Christmas fixtures, they were still sitting pretty in eighth place in the Premier League table, four points and six places better off than Sunday’s opponents.

Before their recent busy period, Palace were being hailed as one of the teams of the season as, once again, the Eagles had soared under Oliver Glasner’s astute leadership.

The FA Cup winners were jostling for position in and around the European places in the table and, while defeats to Manchester City and Leeds this month have tempered the optimism somewhat, they remain a tough team to take on, particularly at their hostile Selhurst Park home.

Spurs have seemingly yet to adapt to Thomas Frank’s methods and the former Brentford boss is being talked about as the next candidate to be sacked in the top flight.

Recent defeats at Nottingham Forest and at home to Liverpool, which also included two red cards as ill-discipline struck, have not helped the Dane’s cause, obviously.

Frank will be seeking Christmas cheer against Spurs’ London rivals but unfortunately for the visitors, it looks set to be a familiar tale of woe.

      Kudus can cause Eagles damage

Mohammed Kudus has flickered into life at times for Tottenham this season but he will be disappointed with his goal return following his move from West Ham as the forward has managed just three goals in all competitions this term.

Kudus is often energetic for Frank’s side without always getting his just reward in front of goal, typified by stats that show he has had seven shots in his last six games but he’s only bagged two goals in that time.

With Xavi Simons suspended, he may well be relied upon in the final third against Palace and he can get on the scoresheet at tempting odds of 7/2 to net anytime.

        Key forwards to shine

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been Palace’s main man up front this season with the France international hitting nine goals in all competitions.

He has seven in the league and will be looking to add to his tally on Sunday.

Mateta has had 11 shots in his last six appearances for the Eagles, with five of those efforts registering on target.

Against a Spurs defence that has conceded nine goals in their last five games, Mateta should get plenty of opportunities and it shouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see him end the game having had at least two shots on target.

Similarly, at the other end, Richarlison can cause the Palace defence problems.

Richarlison is Tottenham’s top-scorer in the Premier League this season with seven and with Xavi Simons’ suspended, he is likely to start.

The Brazilian was on a mission when he came off the bench against Liverpool last weekend, scoring to get his side back into the game late on and he had, in total, two shots in just 11 minutes of action.

His lively cameo against the Reds means he should be confident for Sunday’s showdown and it would be no surprise to see him also plundering at least two efforts that will test the Palace keeper.

The other leg of this three-strong Bet Builder is for both teams to score. That occurred in both Palace and Spurs’ most recent games last weekend and two fairly evenly-matched teams should be able to register at least a goal apiece at Selhurst Park.

Furthermore, Tottenham have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight league games and all of Spurs’ last seven Premier League away games have featured at least three goals.

They are a team which are usually involved in goal-laden affairs and it could be a similar scenario on Sunday.
