Magpies can frustrate faltering European champions
The race for a top-eight finish in the Champions League is going down to the wire and PSG’s fixture against Newcastle is a crucial game for both clubs.
They lie sixth and seventh in the table going into the final round of fixtures. However, the six teams below them also have 13 points on the board and are ready to pounce on any slip-up.
European champions PSG are hot favourites to seal their bye to the round of 16 with a home victory over the Magpies.
But Luis Enrique’s men have struggled to hit the heights of last season and their last two Champions League results were a 0-0 draw at Athletic Bilbao and a 2-1 loss at Sporting.
Key midfielders Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves missed Friday’s underwhelming 1-0 win at Auxerre in Ligue 1 and Newcastle should be backed to avoid defeat at the Parc des Princes.
The Magpies’ inconsistent Premier League campaign continued with a 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday but they have been impressive in Europe.
They beat Benfica, Athletic Bilbao and PSV to nil in their last three home fixtures and have competed well on the road, winning 4-0 at Union Saint-Gilloise before a 2-1 loss at Marseille and a 2-2 draw at Bayer Leverkusen, who equalised in the 88th minute.

Back in-form Barnes to extend Champions League hot streak
Harvey Barnes has been the star of the show for Newcastle in Europe this term, scoring five goals in just 430 minutes of playing time.
The winger opened the scoring in the sixth minute of November’s trip to Marseille and he is a good bet to score on his return to France this week.
Barnes has also impressed in a couple of domestic thrillers this month. He scored twice in a 4-3 Premier League home win over Leeds and bagged another brace in the FA Cup tie against Bournemouth, which Newcastle won on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
He had five attempts at goal in Sunday’s loss to Villa and can lead the Magpies’ charge in Paris.

Brazilian bruiser looks a strong card candidate in Paris
PSG have not been at their free-scoring best recently and their January results include low-scoring league wins over Paris FC (2-1) and Auxerre (1-0).
They also suffered a shock 1-0 cup defeat to Paris FC and under 3.5 goals looks a good foundation for Wednesday’s Bet Builder.
Newcastle’s defence is depleted by injuries so Eddie Howe may take a cautious approach in the early stages of the contest.
PSG had to wait until the 79th minute to break through against Auxerre on Friday and the half-time draw is an appealing bet again.
Newcastle midfielder Joelinton is a reliable card candidate in big matches and he should be backed to pick up an 11th booking of the campaign.
The Brazilian was cautioned in his first two Champions League outings, against Barcelona and Union Saint-Gilloise, and has received a yellow card in all four of the Magpies’ meetings with Premier League title contenders Arsenal, Manchester City and Villa this term.
