Enzo can light up derby with another goal

The impending return of Cole Palmer may alter Enzo Fernandez’s role in the Chelsea side long-term, but for now the Argentine World Cup winner is having a ball as a No.10.

Fernandez has scored twice over the past week, both from penalties, first in the 3-1 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League, then in the 3-2 win at Napoli in the Champions League.

That’s five goals in his last eight appearances and 10 for the season, the first of which came in the 5-1 win at West Ham in August.

Chelsea welcome the Hammers back to Stamford Bridge and Fernandez has to be one of the first names on Liam Rosenior’s team-sheet.

West Ham are showing signs of improvement with a fortunate FA Cup triumph over QPR followed by a pair of critical league successes at Tottenham and at home to Sunderland.

But the pressure is still on Nuno and while his side looks less porous than the one he inherited, the expectation is that Chelsea win this and score a few goals.

And if they can score goals, then few are hotter than Enzo Fernandez in that department right now.

Nuno’s defensive issues should invite Chelsea goals

Chelsea’s 3-2 success at Napoli, coming from 2-1 down, to clinch a top-eight berth in the Champions League, will have done wonders for morale at the Bridge.

That was a fourth straight win and any tiredness will surely be offset by the feel-good factor of this current streak under their new boss.

West Ham will present an obstacle but you cannot ignore the fact they are in the bottom three, there on merit and at least a win away from getting out of that mess.

And they are down there because they cannot keep a clean sheet for love nor money.

You have to go back to August 31 and a 3-0 victory at Nottingham Forest – a win which came a week after that five-goal mauling by Chelsea – for the last time that West Ham registered a clean sheet. That was 22 games ago.

Chelsea are full of goals, will create chances and should be taken to find the net in each half.

Derby rivalry can see card count rise

When Chelsea won 5-1 at West Ham earlier this season it was a non-event as a contest. The Hammers were utterly outplayed and the Blues were serene. It was so easy, so uncompetitive, there was only one yellow card.

And that, as we know, is out of character, certainly for Chelsea.

Liam Rosenior needs to put a lid on the ill-discipline which has seen his team rack up 57 cards this season at 2.5 a match. But it could take time and West Ham will be up for a fight given the plight they are in.

The Hammers’ last three games have produced card counts of 7-8-5 so expect over four in this tussle.

Chelsea to win looks obvious but go for something a bit chancier to inflate the price – such as a goals range of three to six.

Both of Chelsea’s games this week and each of West Ham’s last six have settled into that bracket.

Finally, Jarrod Bowen to have one or more shots on target. He is West Ham’s main threat with seven league goals and in an open game he can get a chance or two.
