Misfiring duo hard to separate
Aston Villa and Newcastle secured much-needed Premier League victories during the week and that could lead to a lively FA Cup contest at Villa Park on Saturday.
Villa’s 1-0 win over Brighton ended their two-match winless streak, while the Magpies were relieved to end their five-match stretch without a victory when beating Tottenham 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And the pair will be keen to extend their stay in this competition despite having plenty to play for elsewhere.
Aston Villa remain in the Premier League title race even though they are seven points behind leaders Arsenal and they still harbour ambitions of glory in the Europa League.
Newcastle have Champions League commitments still to contend with, and they will be desperate to get their fading European qualification challenge back on track having slipped to 10th spot in the league.
Neither, though, will want to miss out on a possible trip to Wembley, so that could lead to a competitive affair at the weekend, albeit one with few goals.
The pair haven’t been at their most clinical in recent weeks, and although likely to create plenty of chances, backing a draw in which both teams score could pay off, as both teams have scored in Newcastle’s last five matches.

Goals unlikely to flow
Prior to their midweek 2-1 win at Tottenham, Newcastle had scored exactly one goal in each of their previous three away fixtures and that may be their limit once more against a well-organised Aston Villa side.
Backing a 1-1 scoreline looks a solid betting option as the goals have dried up for the hosts recently.
Villa have scored just two goals across their last three fixtures and they are averaging just 1.3 goals per game on home soil in the league this term.

Expect plenty of goalmouth action
Although a tight contest is predicted, there is rarely a lack of goalmouth action in meetings between these two, so backing at least seven shots on target may not be as risky as it sounds in a game fancied to finish 1-1.
There were 12 shots on target at St James’ Park when Villa won 2-0 there last month, and that followed shots on target totals of 6, 12, 9, 11, 19, 8 and 7 in the previous seven match-ups.
Both managers may choose to rest key men despite a willingness to progress in this competition, so that could lead to a disjointed affair in which goals are less likely even if there are a high number of chances created.
