Monaco vs PSG Betting Tips

Our betting expert has three Monaco vs PSG tips for Tuesday’s Champions League match at the Stade Louis II (kick-off, 8.00pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

Enrique’s men have a point to prove

Despite finishing 10 places and four points better off than Monaco in the League Phase of the Champions League, PSG have a point to prove this week. The reigning European and Ligue 1 champions are six places and 20 points better off than Monaco in the league, but they lost 1-0 on their last visit to Stade Louis II in November.

PSG failed to win their last three League Phase games, and they will hope to be the first team to beat Monaco away from home in the competition.

Monaco have scored seven goals in their last two league games and should get themselves on the scoresheet, but PSG are good value for an away win.

Unlike their previous disappointments in Europe, PSG have the best away record in the French top flight and no other side has scored more goals than them on the road this season.

With Tuesday’s game coming against a fellow French side, PSG will certainly feel that they can assert their authority and their 1-0 defeat earlier this season was an anomaly, with Les Parisiens unbeaten in five games against Monaco before that slip-up.

Hosts can make life difficult for Ligue 1 rivals

PSG suffered only their third away defeat of the season at Rennes on Friday, but there is every chance they had one eye on this tie. Their 3-1 loss was a setback, and they will have to come through adversity to succeed on Tuesday.

Sebastien Pocognoli’s side have only lost one of their last six games in all competitions, but three of those games ended in a draw. That proves they are stubborn, and they have only been trailing at half-time in five of their 22 Ligue 1 games.

PSG have only lost three times against fellow Ligue 1 sides this season and they will look to make a statement in midweek, proving again that they are the number one team in France.

Monaco’s recent form suggests they can keep things tight in the first 45 minutes, but PSG came good in the knockout stages last season and they have the squad depth and quality to take control eventually against Pocognoli’s team.

Dembele to lead PSG’s charge

Monaco will need to be firing on all cylinders to stand any chance and they will have to be aggressive at times to stop PSG’s momentum. They picked up 16 yellow cards in the League Phase, and they are likely to be in trouble with the ref afain this week, with PSG’s players only collecting seven in the last phase of the competition.

In the last meeting in November, five cards were brandished, with Monaco collecting four of them, including Thilo Kehrer’s red card.

Kehrer and his team-mates will have their work cut out stopping Ousmane Dembele, meanwhile.

The winger has registered two shots on target in each of his last three starts and he has scored three goals in his last two appearances and leads PSG’s scoring charts this season.

Aleksandr Golovin will be one of the players looking to get stuck in and he has conceded 34 fouls for Monaco this season, the most amongst his peers. He has conceded at least one in seven consecutive appearances, and against one of the best teams in the competition, he will be expected to do more defending than he would like, so expect him to leave his mark.
