ITV Racing returns this weekend with a brilliant triple-header broadcast.
Following the excitement of the Cheltenham Festival, the jumps season rolls on at Newbury, headlined by a trio of thrilling contests: the Grade 2 British EBF Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, the hugely competitive Saturday Superboost Handicap Chase, and the valuable Goffs Hundred Grand Bumper. Today’s ITV Racing Newbury, Kelso and Bangor-on-Dee betting tips
The competitive Go North Cab On Target Series Final Handicap Hurdle (1.30pm) kicks things off at Kelso tomorrow, serving as a Class 2 highlight of the weekend.
Complementing that race is a stacked card at Newbury featuring the eagerly-anticipated BetVictor Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (1.50pm), as well as a meeting at Bangor-on-Dee with the competitive VirginBet Safe Gambling Handicap Hurdle (3.20pm) taking place.
Our expert has three selections for ITV’s coverage, the first of which comes from Kelso.
- 1.30 Kelso – Brookside La @ 9/2
- 1.50 Newbury – Storming George @ 6/1
- 3.20 Bangor-on-Dee – In The Age @ 11/4
1.30 Kelso – Brookside La
Dan Skelton’s Brookside La was nothing short of highly impressive when making a successful handicap debut at Wetherby on Boxing Day, and a reproduction of his subsequent superb run at Haydock makes him a major player in the BetWright Handicap Hurdle (1.30pm).
He has taken to the handicap ranks brilliantly this winter, combining a strong travelling style with slick, measured jumping. Following up that initial victory with an excellent third in a deep, 17-runner affair—form that has already been reliably franked—proves his undisputed effectiveness in competitive fields, and the likely good to soft conditions hold no fears.
Brookside La is the progressive, unexposed act of the field, and returning fresh from a short break, he should be ready to stamp his authority on this contest and book his ticket to the winner’s enclosure for a top yard.
- Hugely attractive new customer welcome offer
- Popular Double Delight promo offers great value on goalscorer bets
1.50 Newbury – Storming George
Neil King’s Storming George faces a far less demanding assignment tomorrow, and returning to handicap company could be exactly what’s needed to secure a victory in the BetVictor Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (1.50pm).
It is easy enough to forgive his latest run, where he was understandably outclassed in the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle at Kempton. A much more accurate measure of his true ability is the excellent runner-up effort he produced at Doncaster in early February. That performance proved he has the stamina for this sort of test, and competing off a mark of 125 leaves him looking dangerously well-treated against this field.
With the Neil King yard operating in fantastic form lately, the six-year-old has plenty in his favor. If Jack Quinlan can get him settled into a nice rhythm early on, Storming George boasts the tactical speed and experience to outclass his rivals here.

3.20 Bangor-on-Dee – In The Age
Dan Skelton rarely sends one to Bangor-on-Dee without good reason, and his six-year-old In The Age looks primed for a massive run in the Virgin Bet Supports Safe Gambling Handicap Hurdle (3.20pm).
While he hasn’t quite managed to get his head in front on his last couple of starts, you can’t fault the horse’s rock-solid consistency. He’s been knocking loudly on the door all winter, most notably with a gritty runner-up finish last time out that strongly suggests his current handicap mark is well within his grasp.
This specific test around a sharp, turning track like Bangor could be exactly the catalyst he needs to get back to winning ways. With the Skelton operation always to be feared when targeting these competitive Saturday handicaps, and Charlie Todd taking the reins, In The Age has the perfect blend of tactical speed and stamina to finally capitalise. He is a remarkably genuine horse who rarely runs a bad race, making him a cracking bet to round off the afternoon’s coverage.
