Brazil vs Norway Betting Tips

Brazil and Norway meet in the Round of 16 on Sunday, 5th July in a contest scheduled for a 9:00pm BST kick-off. Our betting expert has analysed the form, team news and key stats for this knockout tie, so read on for the analysis behind his selections.

Seleção’s Knockout Experience to Tell

Despite not always looking convincing, Brazil remain one of the leading contenders to win the 2026 tournament. Their vast experience in the latter stages of major competitions is a significant advantage, particularly when compared to a Norwegian side that is navigating its first knockout match in 28 years.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have a history of starting tournaments slowly, and this campaign has been no different, with early struggles against Morocco and Japan. However, they have now recorded three consecutive victories, scoring more than 1.5 goals in each of those wins. The quality of players like Vinicius Junior often proves decisive in tight matches.

Norway have earned their reputation as potential dark horses and will not be easily overcome. The data suggests a closely fought game, but Brazil’s superior depth, tactical flexibility under Ancelotti, and proven ability to manage high-pressure knockout scenarios should see them advance to the quarter-finals.

Ancelotti’s Side to Pile on the Pressure

Brazil’s attacking output has steadily increased as the tournament has progressed, and this trend looks set to continue against Norway. In their Round of 32 victory over Japan, the Seleção registered 19 shots as they chased the game, demonstrating their capacity to create a high volume of chances when needed.

This market is particularly appealing given Norway’s defensive record. Ståle Solbakken’s team have conceded over 13.5 shots in three of their four matches in North America. The only exception was against Iraq. Against stronger opposition like France, they allowed 18 shots in a 4-1 defeat, highlighting a potential vulnerability against top-tier attacks.

The tactical adjustments made by Ancelotti have also been key. The introduction of Endrick against Japan was a catalyst for their increased attacking threat, with 57.9% of their shots coming while he was on the pitch. Whether starting or from the bench, his presence contributes to an offensive approach that should see Brazil comfortably exceed the 13.5 shot line.

Haaland to Exploit Brazilian Frailties

Brazil have shown a consistent defensive vulnerability in wide areas throughout the competition. Both Morocco and Japan found success by progressing the ball down the flanks and delivering crosses, a tactical weakness that Norway are well-equipped to exploit. This opens up a clear avenue of attack for the Scandinavians.

Erling Haaland is the natural focal point for such a strategy. He leads the Norwegian squad in headed attempts, averaging 1.3 per game, and four of his 14 shots at this tournament have been with his head. With Norway boasting the fifth-best crossing success rate, the service into the box is likely to be of high quality, creating clear opportunities for their talisman.

Haaland has already scored five times in the competition and consistently posts high xG figures. Given Brazil’s struggles to maintain defensive structure when possession is turned over, the Manchester City forward is a prime candidate to convert one of the chances that will almost certainly come his way from wide deliveries.
