Hillier one to watch at this price
There are few players in the field capable of matching Daniel Hillier’s ball-striking when the long game is firing, and the New Zealander arrives at Wentworth having just reminded everyone of it. Three weeks ago at the British Masters he finished runner-up while leading the entire field in strokes gained tee-to-green, then backed it up in Ireland last week by ranking 12th off the tee and seventh in approach play on a links setup that has never really suited him.
The Surrey parkland is a far better fit. The Belfry, where Hillier won in 2023 and finished second this year, asks many of the same questions, a point underlined by Alex Noren winning at both venues last season. Hillier’s 33rd ranking in par-five scoring and 53rd in scrambling round out a profile that stacks up well here, and an 18th-place finish in 2024 offers proof he can handle the West Course.
