Liverpool vs Villarreal Betting Tips
Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool welcome Villarreal to Anfield for this Champions League league phase clash on Tuesday, 20th October. Read on for our betting expert’s full analysis and top tips for the 8.00pm kick-off.
Goals on the Cards for Both Sides
The recent Champions League fixtures involving these two clubs suggest an entertaining, high-scoring affair is on the horizon. A combined total of 23 goals have been scored across their four matches in the competition so far, which works out to an average of 5.75 goals per game.
A bet on both teams to score combined with over 2.5 goals has landed in all four of the Champions League matches played by Liverpool and Villarreal this season. This trend is supported by data highlighting Villarreal’s defensive frailties; their xGA (expected goals against) of 4.53 is among the highest in the competition.
On the other side, Liverpool are a reliable scoring force at home in Europe. They have found the back of the net in six of their last seven Champions League games at Anfield. The only exception was against PSG in last season’s quarter-finals, a match where they still managed to create plenty of chances, registering an xG of 1.91.

Isak to Find the Net at Anfield
Liverpool’s formidable home record in the Champions League provides a strong case for a home win. Last season, the Reds won three of their four league phase matches at Anfield, with their only defeat coming against a clinical PSV side. Their 2-1 victory against Atletico Madrid on matchday one this term has already shown that Anfield remains a fortress for visiting teams.
Villarreal, despite a commendable 3-1 win over Napoli last time out, have struggled for consistency in this competition. The Spanish outfit went through the entire 2025/26 league phase without a single victory, a run of eight matches that highlights their difficulties at this level.
Their away form was particularly alarming. The Yellow Submarine failed to score a single goal across their four Champions League away fixtures last season, conceding nine in the process. While they have shown signs of improvement on their travels this campaign, securing a positive result at Anfield appears to be a monumental task.
Alexander Isak has been in fine form, scoring five goals in six Premier League appearances. He is yet to score in the Champions League this season, but he has only played in one match, and with his fine scoring form domestically, we are expecting him to exploit Villarreal’s vulnerable defence.
