The battle for the BMW PGA Championship begins on Thursday, and our expert tipsters have analysed the course data and current player form to give our outright predictions and dark horse value plays for the DP World Tour’s flagship event at Wentworth Club.

With a 144-man field packed with major champions and Ryder Cup regulars descending on the West Course, and Rory McIlroy heading a line-up that includes eleven members of Europe’s victorious 2025 side, finding those high-priced longshots to surge up the Sunday leaderboard offers massive appeal.

BMW PGA Championship 2026 Betting Tips

Hovland can pick up where he left off

When evaluating the field at Wentworth, it is impossible to ignore Viktor Hovland’s record on the West Course. His scoring average of 68.73 across 15 rounds ranks fifth among those teeing it up this week, bettered only by Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Patrick Reed and Tyrrell Hatton. That is a substantial sample rather than one flattering week, and it tells you the Norwegian knows exactly how to navigate this layout.

Wentworth places a massive premium on precise iron play into well-protected greens, which perfectly aligns with the strongest part of Hovland’s game. He ranked 14th on Tour this season for strokes gained approaching the green at 0.543, and broke par in 23.70% of his rounds, the 16th best mark on Tour. His proven comfort level at the venue and his elite approach numbers make him an immediate standout when analysing the outright betting markets.

Hovland’s 2026 campaign has already delivered a victory at the Travelers Championship at 21-under, and he arrives in encouraging order having shared the 36-hole lead at the Tour Championship. The form is trending in the right direction at the perfect moment.

Crucially, this is a player who has delivered on the biggest stages before, winning the 2023 Tour Championship to claim the FedExCup and playing a central role in Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup side last year. The pressure of a flagship event holds no fear for him.

Whether you are looking at the outright market or the each-way places, backing Hovland at a venue where his numbers stack up against the very best in the field offers appealing value as he chases a first BMW PGA Championship title.

Hillier one to watch at this price

There are few players in the field capable of matching Daniel Hillier’s ball-striking when the long game is firing, and the New Zealander arrives at Wentworth having just reminded everyone of it. Three weeks ago at the British Masters he finished runner-up while leading the entire field in strokes gained tee-to-green, then backed it up in Ireland last week by ranking 12th off the tee and seventh in approach play on a links setup that has never really suited him.

The Surrey parkland is a far better fit. The Belfry, where Hillier won in 2023 and finished second this year, asks many of the same questions, a point underlined by Alex Noren winning at both venues last season. Hillier’s 33rd ranking in par-five scoring and 53rd in scrambling round out a profile that stacks up well here, and an 18th-place finish in 2024 offers proof he can handle the West Course.

From a betting perspective he is an intriguing proposition. The 2026 campaign started brightly with a runner-up finish at the Dubai Invitational and victory at his national title, the New Zealand Open, in March, before the form drifted through spring and summer. The Belfry performance suggests that spell is behind him at exactly the right moment.

The one thing standing between him and a first BMW PGA title is the putter, which has been the story of his career. With Coral and Ladbrokes, paying ten places at a fifth the odds, and as big as 55/1, he makes plenty of appeal for the each-way backers.
