Qatar vs Switzerland Betting Tips

Qatar and Switzerland kick off their Group B campaigns in the 2026 tournament on Saturday, 13th June at 8.00pm. Our betting expert has analysed the key stats and tactical matchups for this clash in Santa Clara, so read on for the analysis behind his selections.

Swiss Poised for Dominant Start

Switzerland enter their opening match as strong favourites, and the data suggests they are well-positioned to secure three points against the group’s underdogs. The Swiss have demonstrated remarkable consistency, losing just one of their last 14 international fixtures while winning eight.

During that impressive run, Murat Yakin’s side has been potent in attack and resolute in defence. They have scored at an average of 2.43 goals per game while conceding just 0.86, a balance that will be difficult for Qatar to handle.

This contrasts sharply with Qatar’s performance on the biggest stage. At the 2022 tournament, despite having home advantage, they lost all three group matches, managing to score only a single goal while shipping seven. Switzerland’s experience, having reached the knockout stage in the last three tournaments, gives them a significant edge.

Al Ouwi Set for Tough Test

Individual matchups could be key in this fixture, and the battle on Switzerland’s left flank appears particularly promising for the fouls market. Winger Dan Ndoye is a primary creative outlet for the Swiss, utilising his pace and skill in one-on-one situations to trouble defenders.

This places Qatar’s right-back, Ayoub Al Ouwi, directly in the firing line. In a recent friendly, Ndoye played just 45 minutes but still managed to draw two fouls, with the opposing right-sided defender committing five fouls over the course of the match. This highlights the pressure he can exert on his direct opponent.

Al Ouwi’s own disciplinary record supports this angle. In Qatar’s last match against European opposition, a 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland, he committed two fouls. Furthermore, historical data from the last major tournament shows that Switzerland drew two or more fouls from the opposing right-back in all three of their group games.

Embolo to Lead the Line

As the focal point of the Swiss attack, Breel Embolo is expected to play a crucial role. He was instrumental during the qualification phase, scoring four goals, and is the odds-on favourite to find the net in a match his side is expected to control from the start.

Embolo has a track record of performing in opening matches, having scored the decisive goal in Switzerland’s 1-0 victory over Cameroon in their first game of the 2022 tournament. Notably, all four of his goals during the qualifiers for this competition were scored in the first half, indicating a tendency to start matches quickly.

Given that Switzerland are likely to dominate possession and create numerous goal-scoring opportunities, backing their primary striker offers clear logic. The value may lie in the ‘First Goalscorer’ market rather than ‘Anytime’, as he will be central to their early offensive efforts.
