Friday’s Royal Ascot Betting tips
Our expert has a pair of selections for the coverage, the first of which comes in the eagerly anticipated Commonwealth Cup (3.05pm).
3.05 Royal Ascot – Venetian Sun
Karl Burke’s Venetian Sun arrives at this afternoon’s Group 1 Commonwealth Cup as the undeniable one to beat, returning to the optimal six-furlong trip where she remains completely undefeated in five career starts.
The brilliant filly proved she is a sprinter right out of the top drawer when effortlessly winning the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock last month, perfectly bouncing back after her stamina understandably gave way over a mile in the 1000 Guineas.
With Clifford Lee in the saddle, she possesses the raw speed and tactical versatility required to conquer this straight six, having already captured the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot as a two-year-old. While she faces a deep international field that includes American raider Outfielder and the highly regarded Albert Einstein, Venetian Sun’s proven course-and-distance form and explosive turn of foot make her the clear standout.
Backing her for the outright win offers a strong angle, as this return to sprinting looks primed to cement her status as the season’s premier three-year-old speedster.

3.40 Royal Ascot – Warrant Holder
Warrant Holder is a strong statistical play in Friday’s 3.40 Duke of Edinburgh Stakes. The John and Thady Gosden-trained four-year-old boasts a 50% career strike rate with three wins from six starts, and has yet to finish outside the top three.
He enters the race following a one-length Class 2 handicap victory at York over 1m 2½f, where he achieved a peak Racing Post Rating of 115 after a 206-day break. Ridden by William Buick, the royal runner steps up to 1m 4f carrying 9-12.
Despite a 5lb penalty raising his official mark to 105, historical course trends heavily favor his high draw in stall 17, making him a mathematically sound horse to consider based on consistent speed figures and proven form.
