UPDATE: AFTER THE FINALS

We have updated the number of followers that the players of the Women’s World Cup have gained since its start on Instagram, and according to the results of our tracking (starting before the tournament and ending after the finals):

  • Switzerland’s Alisha Lehmann has gained the most followers (1.1198 million, potential earnings per post: 149K dollars), followed by Australia’s Sam Kerr and Brazil’s Ary
  • Amongst yesterday’s champions from Spain, Olga Carmona has gained the most followers – 219K
  • Spain’s Salma Paralluelo who became the first player to ever be a champion at U-17, U-20 and senior level after Spain’s win gained nearly 160K followers
  • From all of the teams, Australia has collectively gained the most followers – 1.811 million
  • All of the teams have gained over 12 million Instagram followers

UPDATE: AFTER GROUP STAGES

We have been tracking social media followers of the players in the Women's World Cup, and after the group stages, we compared their followers on Instagram to find out who has gained the most followers - numbers-wise and percentage-wise. 

Switzerland’s Alisha Lehmann came out on top when it comes to the number of followers, gaining 894K followers, potentially being able to earn 146K dollars per post.

Haiti’s Kerly Théus gained the most followers, percentage-wise, with a 708% increase.

Brazil team’s players collectively gained the most followers - 985 660, followed by Switzerland (+937K) & USA (+764K).

In total, all of the players across teams gained 6 921 177 followers.

  • Instagram profiles of the players from the Women’s World Cup were collected and tracked between 17/7/2023 and 21/8/2023
  • In total, 606 Instagram profiles were tracked; players whose official Instagram account could not be found were omitted from the analysis (marked as 0 in the tables)
  • For Instagram potential earnings, an industry accepted standard of 10 dollars per post for 1000 followers was used (these figures might differ in the end, depending on individual negotiations)
