Coldplay set to have more Wembley appearances than Liverpool

Updated on

Iconic British band Coldplay just announced their new album tour which features a staggering 10 shows at the ‘new’ Wembley stadium. The band played at Wembley six times in 2022 and the additional shows will now take their total to 16 performances at the Three Lions’ home.

10 shows in a single tour is a new record as the Chris Martin led band has surpassed pop megastar Taylor Swift and another British group, Take That. Swift and Take That had played eight nights at Wembley in 2023 and 2011 respectively.

With Coldplay now set to have 16 appearances at Wembley, they are set to have more appearances at the stadium than some Premier League sides including Liverpool.

Is Coldplay bigger than Liverpool FC?

Since 2002, the Liverpool men’s football team has featured at the new Wembley Stadium 14 times. The Merseyside club has picked up five titles in those 14 appearances, with the latest one being the 2023-24 Carabao Cup.

14 appearances at Wembley is no small feat but with Coldplay set to add 10 more appearances at the stadium, to their existing six, through the Music of the Spheres Tour, the band will eclipse the Reds in this regard.

Coldplay are still behind the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and Tottenham. The latter played home games at Wembley, both in the league and European competitions, while their current home stadium was being built. They have the most appearances of any Premier League club (59) but only eight of them have been cup finals.

The likes of Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Southampton will clearly be left behind once Coldplay have played their 10 dates in 2025.

Can Liverpool outmatch Coldplay’s tally this season?

If Arne Slot’s men make it to at least the Carabao Cup Final and FA Cup semi-finals, they will match Coldplay’s appearance tally at Wembley. If they’re able to reach the FA Cup Final, then Coldplay will have to add a couple more dates to leave Liverpool behind.

Considering this is his first season at the helm at Anfield, Slot would do very well to reach a couple of domestic cup finals and surpass Coldplay. Or they can hope for the band to break up but we wouldn’t bet on that!
