Open de Espana Betting Tips
John Rahm is a three-time Open de Espana winner, of which two have come at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. Rahm is one of several LIV stars who have made the decision to tee it up in the Spanish capital.
Joaquin Niemann, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia and Tom McKibbin are four more LIV players who will be teeing it up, while Shane Lowry, part of Europe’s triumphant Ryder Cup team, is back in action for the first time since that New York spectacle.
- Outright winner – David Puig to win and each-way @ 14/1
- Outright winner – Grant Forrest to win and each-way @ 66/1
- Outright winner – Jose Luis Ballester top-10 finish @ 15/2
Puig to make his mark on home soil
There are several home favourites eager to deliver glory for the Spanish faithful this week and that could be delivered by the talented David Puig, who was tied-third last year and has been growing rapidly on the LIV circuit since joining Fireballs GC.
Puig posted three top-five finishes on the Saudi-backed circuit this year and finished no worse than tied-20th, evidence of his superb consistency, while he also won three-successive team events in Adelaide, Hong Kong and Singapore.
One area of the Spaniard’s game that is in fine shape is his putting, as he ranks fifth in putting average, and that club should be crucial this week with four of the last five Open de Espana winners ranking fourth or better in that department.
Forrest to enjoy Madrid return
Grant Forrest enjoyed a return to the winner’s circle in August, landing the Nexo Championship just over four years after his maiden DP World Tour victory, and it was perhaps understandable to see his form tail off since that victory.
The Scot missed four cuts in a row, but he bounced back to form in his homeland last week when battling the elements to finish tied-11th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Recording his best finish since that Nexo success should have given Forrest a much-needed boost heading into the final stages of the campaign and he could figure at a course he has excelled at before.
The 32-year-old has finished tied-third in Madrid twice, in 2021 and 2024, and it would be no surprise to see him put in another bold challenge for the spoils in Spain.
Ballester to continue his rapid rise
Having only turned professional in June, Jose Luis Ballester has made an impressive start to his LIV career, notably finishing tied-second in Chicago two weeks after he ended up in a share of seventh in the UK event.
The 22-year-old Spaniard, who is part of the Fireballs team along with Puig, is still developing since making the step up from the amateur ranks, but he appears to be taking everything in his stride so far and can put in a strong performance on home soil.
