Back further Godolphin glory for the season’s first Classic
Charlie Appleby and Godolphin have won two of the last three runnings of the 2,000 Guineas with Coroebus (2022) and Notable Speech (2024) and the stable is double-handed this year with RULING COURT and Shadow Of Light.
Ruling Court is a son of Justify and was sold for a staggering €2.3million at two-years-old at the Arqana May Breeze-Up last year. He was all the rage in the betting on his debut over 7f last July and sprinted clear to win in the manner of a very classy horse.
Sent off favourite for the Acomb Stakes at York next time, it has to be said that he was rather disappointing when third behind The Lion In Winter and Wimbledon Hawkeye, but he was sweating and was a bit edgy in the preliminaries and raced keenly.
It’s not too often you will see a Guineas winner sporting a tongue-tie, but he wore one for the first time when last seen demolishing his rivals in a 1m Listed contest at Meydan and there’s scope for further improvement to come.
Juddmonte’s Field Of Gold heads the betting and deservedly so after bolting up in the Craven Stakes, but the Gosdens are yet to win this race so we are willing to take him on with the Appleby horse at the prices.

What is the each-way angle in the race?
If you’re looking for a decent each-way angle, look no further than the James Owen-trained WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE, who is arguably overpriced judged on his runner-up finish in the Acomb, considering he finished ahead of Ruling Court on the day.
The son of Kameko took Group 2 honours over course and distance in September before finishing third in the Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster on ground that might have been too testing for him.
Granted, he was no match for Field Of Gold when runner-up in the Craven on his return but this boy has experience on his side and his latest effort can be marked up as he ran with the choke out for much of the contest.
