Winless Mali’s AFCON stay to end in Tangier
The Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals kick off at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier on Friday, and Senegal should live up to their favouritism against a Mali side that have not gone beyond the quarter-finals since 2013.
Les Aigles have reached this stage of the competition despite not winning a single match in normal time, with all four fixtures ending as draws after 90 minutes.
This does include a stalemate with hosts and pre-tournament favourites Morocco, but Senegal have been one of the standout teams in the tournament.
The Lions of Teranga have won three and drawn one of their four games, scoring 10 goals in the process, and they can end Mali’s stay in the competition.
Hosts’ dominance to continue in Rabat
Host nation Morocco remain favourites to lift the Africa Cup of Nations after winning three of their four matches, and they can progress to the semi-finals when they meet Cameroon in Rabat on Friday.
The Atlas Lions’ have been largely dominant in their quartet of AFCON games, and their only failure to win came in a group-stage meeting with Mali in which they generated 2.82 expected goals to their opponents’ 0.91, outshooting them 15-5.
Cameroon are unbeaten so far, but they were fortunate to beat South Africa in the last 16 and they have lost their last two meetings with Morocco by a 6-0 aggregate scoreline.

Goals backed in Marrakech
Nigeria are slight favourites to progress to the semi-finals on Saturday, and goals could be on the cards in Marrakech.
The Super Eagles have scored an impressive 12 goals in four games in this tournament, but they have only one clean sheet and come up against an Algeria side with eight goals from their four outings.

Holders can see off struggling Pharaohs
Egypt have been poor in their last two games with Benin and Angola, both of which ended all square after 90 minutes, and their stay in the Africa Cup of Nations may be brought to an end by defending champions Ivory Coast.
The Elephants have won three of their four games and were unfortunate not to beat Cameroon in the group stage.
