Gunners can see off champions
The Premier League leaders host the top-flight champions at the Emirates Stadium in the only English fixture on Thursday night and Arsenal could demonstrate why they are in pole position to succeed Liverpool.
The Gunners held a six-point lead over Manchester City and Aston Villa before Wednesday’s matches but are 14 ahead of the Reds after 20 games and that gap could continue to grow over the second half of the season.
Arsenal have won five Premier League games in a row since suffering their second league defeat of the season at Villa Park a month ago, but they avenged that loss in no uncertain terms with a 4-1 home win over Aston Villa last week.
Mikel Arteta’s team could hand out the same treatment to Liverpool, who beat the Londoners 1-0 during their misleading perfect start to the season, when they began their title defence with five successive wins.
Since then, Liverpool have lost six of their last 15 top-flight fixtures, which is two more defeats than they sustained during their title success last term.
Arsenal have dropped only two points at home this season – in a 1-1 September draw with Manchester City – and they have a goal difference of plus-21 from ten league matches at the Emirates.
The first meeting between the teams this was something of an outlier in the head-to-head series as it produced only one goal, when their previous three meetings had each generated four goals, including a pair of 2-2 draws last season.
With Arsenal having raised their game to new heights this season and Liverpool not living up to the standards they set last term, take the home side to win a game with at least three goals.
Arsenal vs Liverpool tip 1: Arsenal to win and over 2.5 goals @ 13/10
Sublime Saka set to strike
Bukayo Saka has relished facing Liverpool in recent seasons and the Arsenal forward looks a lively candidate to get back on the goal trail on Thursday night.
The England international has not found the net since adding the second goal in Arsenal’s 2-0 home win over Brentford just over a month ago, but his impressive performance as a substitute in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Bournemouth suggested he is primed to strike.
Saka entered the game after 67 minutes and just four minutes later he provided the assist for Declan Rice’s second goal of the game. With Saka and Gabriel Jesus kept fresh for this key fixture, a strong offensive showing from the league leaders is expected and Saka can build on his excellent record against Liverpool.
He has scored the first goal of the match on the Reds’ last two visits to the Emirates, and netted twice against them in Arsenal’s 3-2 league win there in October 2022.
Skipper Odegaard in fine form for hosts
Clashes between Arsenal and Liverpool are usually well worth watching and while their first meeting this season produced only one goal, both teams have scored in six of their last eight encounters and that is a solid starting point for a four-leg bet builder on Thursday’s game.
Add the dangerous Saka to score or assist in the big game and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard to have a least one shot on target as he continues to impress in the Gunners’ midfield.
Complete to the bet with under five cards to be shown in the game. Arsenal have not been shown more than two cards in any of their last nine matches, while Liverpool have received just one caution in their last three games.
