Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Betting Tips

Our betting expert has three Bayern Munich vs Chelsea tips for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at the Allianz Stadium. (kick-off 8.00pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

German giants to put Blues away

Chelsea return to the Champions League after two seasons away, but their comeback could hardly be tougher as they head to the Allianz Arena to take on Bayern Munich.

Enzo Maresca’s side have endured a flat domestic start despite heavy summer investment and their FIFA Club World Cup triumph. A late lead at Brentford at the weekend was undone in a 2-2 draw, underlining their inconsistency.

Bayern, by contrast, have been in ruthless form, scoring 17 goals across their last four league and cup outings. The German giants have also won eight of their last 10 home matches in European competition against English opposition.

They are chasing a remarkable 22nd straight victory in their opening Champions League fixture of the season, and with their firepower, it looks well within reach. Chelsea may find a goal of their own, but keeping Munich quiet looks a far greater challenge.

Palmer key to Blues raids

Cole Palmer returned from injury for the Blues in their west London derby draw at Brentford and the England ace scored with a typically stylish and crisp second-half finish.

That was the 23-year-old’s first goal of the domestic season, having netted a brace in the Club World Cup final win over Paris Saint-Germain in July.

Both goals in that New Jersey decider came from just inside the penalty area, but Palmer is no stranger to trying his luck from outside the box. A third of his Premier League goals last season (5-15) came from beyond the 18-yard line. With his ability and eagerness to shoot from both outside and inside the box, we think the player will have a few attempts at the Allianz Arena this evening.

When Chelsea do get the opportunity to attack Bayern, Palmer’s ability to shoot from distance could be crucial.

Kane to punish familiar foes

England captain Harry Kane knows all about facing Chelsea. He tackled the Blues 22 times as a Tottenham player, losing 11 of those games in a fixture the Lilywhites often struggled in.

Kane, though, netted eight times – a more than decent return. He found the net in his final two Premier League games against the Stamford Bridge side and can do so again here.

Kane has scored seven times in Bayern’s last four league and cup games, while he was also on target for the Three Lions in their rout in Serbia during the international break.

With Bayern’s goalscoring ability proven and Chelsea a potent threat on the counter-attack, over 2.5 goals is a solid contributor to this bet builder, which is completed with a booking for Marc Cucurella.

The Blues full-back loves to get forward and will have to be alert when the likes of Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise are coming at him down Chelsea’s left hand side.

Cucurella hasn’t been cautioned since the Club World Cup opener in June – 11 competitive games for club and country – but the Spaniard has hit double figures for yellow cards in each of the last two Premier League campaigns and he could be in for a tough night in Bavaria.
