Our bet of the weekend comes from Saturday’s Championship encounter between Sheffield United and Portsmouth at Bramall Lane (3pm kick-off). We are backing the hosts to claim a convincing victory with our Sheffield United vs Portsmouth betting tip.
Sheffield United’s home form may not be as formidable as it was earlier in the campaign, but the Blades should be able to cut through poor travellers Portsmouth with relative ease on Saturday. Their two recent losses at home have been the only games in which they have lost at Bramall Lane this season, so we expect them to get back to winning ways against a Portsmouth side who are only three points above the relegation zone.
The hosts have triumphed in three of their last four Championship games and they have extra incentive to win this one, with the two sides directly above them in the table, Leeds and Burnley, both in FA Cup action this weekend.
This could well be the ideal fixture for Chris Wilder’s promotion hopefuls as Portsmouth have lost seven away matches on the spin in all competitions, with five of those defeats coming by at least a two-goal margin. They have won just one away match in the division all season.
Pompey have collected just seven points from a possible 45 on the road since returning to the Championship and were thrashed 5-1 at West Brom in their most recent road fixture.
Another heavy away defeat could be on the cards for John Mousinho’s team when they make the trip north to Bramall Lane.
