Glorious Goodwood Day Four Preview
The fourth day of the 2026 Qatar Goodwood Festival is upon us, and Friday’s card promises more highly competitive handicap action on the Sussex Downs. The marquee event is undoubtedly the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes, a 5-furlong sprint that traditionally attracts the fastest horses in training.
Headlining this year’s renewal is Night Raider, who has enjoyed a resurgence this season following a winter gelding operation. Trained by Karl Burke and partnered by James Doyle, the five-year-old boasts pattern-race victories in the Palace House Stakes and the Temple Stakes this term.
The supporting card is anchored by the hugely popular Coral Golden Mile, one of the most prestigious Heritage Handicaps of the season. As ever, the draw will be crucial in this £175,000 contest, and luck in running is essential over this unique course.
Earlier in the afternoon, the stayers will tackle the Coral Goodwood Handicap over an extended 2 miles and 4 furlongs, while the three-year-olds line up for the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes over a mile, setting the stage for a big day of racing.
