Premier League preview

There’s midweek Premier League action taking place, with a lot to play for at both ends of the table. Some managers at the ‘bigger’ clubs in the division, like Arne Slot, Thomas Frank and Eddie Howe could be under a lot of pressure if they fail to win this week, whilst all eyes will be on Arsenal and Man City to see how they get on in their matches as the title race heats up.

Have a look at our thoughts on a few of the Premier League match below, and you can create an accumulator for the matches once you’ve got your Betfred account up and running.

Everton vs Bournemouth (Tuesday 7:30pm)

David Moyes’s resilient Everton are looking to maintain their push for a top-half finish, which was boosted by a dramatic 2-1 victory at Fulham on Saturday. The result saw them climb to eighth in the table. Everton are currently winless in their last four league home games and have not tasted victory in front of their own fans since early December.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, travel to Merseyside on good form. The Cherries are 11th in the division and are on a run of five games without defeat in the league. Despite this, they only have one win in their last five away matches, and they will be hoping to change their inconsistent away form on Tuesday night.

Everton did manage to claim a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture in December, but they haven’t secured a league double over Bournemouth since 2016/17.

A win could be a huge boost for both teams, especially with how congested the middle of the Premier League is this season. Dreams of Europe will definitely be happening if either manage to claim the three points in Merseyside.

Tottenham vs Newcastle (Tuesday 7:30pm)

Tottenham vs Newcastle feels like a pivotal moment for both clubs. They both sit in the bottom half of the division, with Newcastle managing one win in five league games, whilst Spurs have no wins in their last five games.

Thomas Frank has been under pressure for months, whilst Eddie Howe is now starting to receive some heavy criticism from part of the Newcastle fan base. With the middle pack very close together this season, a win could really change the perception of each club’s Premier League campaign.

Spurs and Newcastle have managed to have very good Champions League campaigns, but they haven’t managed to replicate this domestically. Spurs have been poor at home this season, winning two of 12 Premier League games, whilst Newcastle have been just as bad away from home. They have only managed two wins on the road.

The atmosphere may be a nervy one at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium this week, especially at the start, and it feels like a match where both managers will be desperate not to lose.

West Ham vs Man United (Tuesday 8:15pm)

Man United have now won four consecutive Premier League matches under interim boss Michael Carrick, and this run has seen them climb into the Champions League places. United have looked unrecognisable since Carrick took the reins, with Bruno Fernandes in a rich vein of form and summer signing Bryan Mbeumo quickly becoming the focal point of a rejuvenated attack.

West Ham, meanwhile, are in a relegation battle, but crucial victories over the last month, including a 2-0 win last weekend over Burnley that moved them within three points of safety, have seen them full of confidence. While their home form at the London Stadium has been patchy this term, the Hammers have become a “bogey team” for United in East London, winning each of their last three home league meetings against them.

With Arsenal leading the pack by double digits, the battle for the top four is where United’s focus lies, and a win tonight would be their first set of five successive league wins in over three years. West Ham have often thrived under the lights against the “Big Six,” and if Crysencio Summerville can extend his scoring streak to six games tonight, it could provide the knockout blow Nuno needs to lift the Hammers level on points with Nottingham Forest before their crucial game on Wednesday against Wolves.

Betting markets reveal favourites for Premier League top 5 finish

Wins on the weekend for Arsenal and Man City means they are the huge favourites to finish in the top five at UK betting sites. The battle for the other three spots is heating up, with the likes of Aston Villa, Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool all battling for the last three spots.

Brentford can also count themselves in the running, with the bookies suggesting they have a small chance of beating some Premier League giants for the top 5 spots. It’s been a very impressive first season for Keith Andrews at the Bees, especially when many were predicting Brentford to be relegated.
