Cheltenham Festival opening race preview
Now you know how to get your hands on up to £80 in Cheltenham free bets, the next job is to work out who to back. Check out our preview below as we dive into the first race of the day.
Supreme Novices Hurdle preview (Tuesday 1.20pm)
The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle gets the Cheltenham Festival underway on Tuesday, with a competitive field of 12 lining up for the traditional opening contest. The Grade 1 two-mile race brings together many of the best British and Irish novice hurdlers and looks set to be a high-quality renewal.
Much of the early attention has centred on Old Park Star, an unbeaten runner from the yard of Nicky Henderson who impressed with a Grade 2 victory at Haydock. However, with the race looking particularly deep this year, others in the field may offer greater appeal.
One of those is Mighty Park, trained by Willie Mullins. The French import made a striking impression when winning by 38 lengths on his stable debut at Fairyhouse and is thought to be highly regarded at home. Despite limited experience, he could prove a serious contender in the Festival opener.
At bigger odds, Baron Noir is another to note. Trained by Alan King, he has shown steady improvement this season and impressed when winning at Kempton in January. If the race is run at a strong pace, he could be capable of outperforming his price and getting involved.
