BetMGM Cheltenham Festival day 2 preview
Punters may have had the best of day one, but with competitive fields and top-class runners throughout the card, finding the winners can be a real challenge. To help you get started, we’ve shared our thoughts and selections for the key races on day two.
Turners Novices’ Hurdle (Today at 1.20pm)
Day two of the Cheltenham Festival begins with the Turners Novices’ Hurdle, a competitive Grade 1 contest over 2m5f that has been won by several top-class performers in recent years. A large field of 22 runners is set to line up, making it one of the most competitive renewals in recent memory.
Among the leading contenders are Ballyfad, King Rasko Grey, Skylight Hustle and Act Of Innocence, all of whom arrive with strong form credentials after notable performances earlier in the season.
Our main selection is No Drama This End, who represents Paul Nicholls. Unbeaten in three starts over hurdles this season, he impressed when landing the Challow Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury and is expected to improve again in a strongly run race.
At bigger odds, Sortudo is a value alternative. The talented hurdler finished second in the Grade 1 Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at Naas earlier this year and, with that experience under his belt, could take another step forward and challenge for a place.

Champion Chase (Today at 4pm)
The highlight of day two at the Cheltenham Festival is the Queen Mother Champion Chase, a relentless two-mile championship test where jumping accuracy and speed are crucial. Last year’s winner Marine Nationale was ruled out shortly before the race, leaving the title wide open for a competitive field of ten runners.
Much of the attention has centred on Majborough, whose talent is unquestioned after a dominant win at the Dublin Racing Festival. However, his jumping has been inconsistent at times and that could prove costly in a race where mistakes are rarely forgiven.
The main selection is Il Etait Temps, who arrives with strong form after wins at Clonmel and Sandown earlier in the season, including a notable success over Jonbon in the Celebration Chase. His fall at Ascot in the Clarence House Chase can be forgiven, and if returning to his best he looks a major contender.
For those seeking value, Found A Fifty is an outsider capable of outrunning his odds. The consistent chaser has multiple Grade-level victories and notably beat Majborough at Cork earlier in the season, suggesting he could be involved if reproducing that level of form.
