Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Italy Tips
Our betting expert has three Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Italy tips for Tuesday, March 31 in World Cup qualfying at Stadion Bilino Polje (kick-off, 7.45pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.
- Italy to win and both teams to score @ 3/1
- Sandro Tonali to score @ 9/2
- Over 2 goals, Edin Dzeko to score and Ivan Sunjic 2+ fouls @ 14/1
Azzurri can prevail
The hysteria in the build-up to Italy’s 2-0 semi-final win over Northern Ireland was evident on the field, as the Azzurri struggled to put in a performance following days of figures from the past publicly discussing the importance of the fixture in Bergamo.
Second-half goals from Sando Tonali and Moise Kean eventually sealed the victory and a place in this final eliminator against Bosnia-Herzegovina, with the winner earning a place in Group B of the World Cup alongside co-hosts Canada, Qatar and Switzerland.
Neither of these countries have competed at the World Cup since 2014. That was Bosnia’s sole participation, having only played as an independent nation since 1995, while it has become a national embarrassment that four-time winners Italy have failed to qualify for the last two tournaments.
The game in Zenica will be tough, with the crowd cheering only for one side, but the Italians have the quality to prevail.
Bosnia showed real spirit to score late in their 1-1 semi-final draw in Wales before holding their nerve on penalties, but have a habit of conceding goals – both sides have scored in their last six – and Gennaro Gattuso’s visitors can battle through.

Super Sandro can be a hero again
Tonali’s excellent opener against Northern Ireland demonstrated the Newcastle player’s skills, displaying excellent technique to fire in a low shot from the edge of the area.
Manuel Locatelli’s presence as the deepest midfielder allows Tonali more freedom to venture forward than at club level and he revelled in that role in Bergamo.
The 25-year-old’s performances have seen him linked with a big-money move away from St James’ Park and he will need another standout performance on Tuesday.
Tonali also scored in last September’s 5-4 qualifying win over Israel, albeit that was potentially a cross that turned into a shot, but he is a player who can stand up on the big night again for the Azzurri.

Dzeko a familiar foe to Italy’s defenders
Edin Dzeko nodded in Bosnia’s equaliser in Cardiff and, despite being 40, remains potent. It was an otherwise quiet night for the veteran, but he has now scored six times in eight qualifiers.
He joined Schalke in January, but Dzeko will know the Italian defenders well after spells with Roma, Inter and Fiorentina, and a goal from him is where we start this Bet Builder.
Two-plus goals in the game also appeals as it has landed in Bosnia’s two most recent home qualifiers – a 2-1 defeat to Austria and 3-1 victory over Romania – while also look out for Zmajevi midfielder Ivan Sunjic to tally up the fouls.
Sunjic only committed one infringement against Wales, but has still registered a qualifying-high 23 fouls and will be happy to attract the ire of referee Clement Turpin if it halts Italy’s momentum.
- Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Italy tip 3: Over 2 goals, Edin Dzeko to score and Ivan Sunjic 2+ fouls @ 14/1
