Reds’ revival slow but steady

Liverpool’s unbeaten run stands at 13 following Wednesday’s impressive 3-0 win away to Marseille in the Champions League and the Reds’ revival could gather more pace when they head to the south coast to take on Bournemouth this weekend. 

The champions won a thrilling encounter 4-2 at Anfield on the opening night of the season and another lively contest can be expected when the pair meet again on Saturday.

Arne Slot’s side have the best unbeaten record in Europe among the top divisions and, although six of those were draws, progress has been made even if it is more steady than spectacular. Tightening things up at the back has come at a cost on attack but things appear to be improving on that front too.

Even last week’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Burnley showed signs of promise as the Reds carved out more than enough chances to win the contest before running out of ideas.

Bournemouth may be struggling to pick up results, but they remain a threat in attack and their last two home league matches have seen them score twice against Arsenal and three times against Tottenham, so they will be confident of troubling their visitors on Saturday evening.

Liverpool have tightened up at the back, but they still offered up several chances to Marseille on Wednesday, while Burnley cut through the Reds with ease to nab an equaliser at Anfield last week, and that will offer some hope to Bournemouth who won’t be shy in coming forwards if they get the chance.
