Swiss dance stars stand out with LED spectacle

The final of the 18th series of ITV entertainment show Britain’s Got Talent takes place on Saturday night, with 12 acts set to compete for one of TV’s most prestigious prizes.

Two wild-card acts are yet to be added to the Golden Buzzer and public vote winners from each of the five semi-finals – one chosen by the judges and one by the public from the third-placed acts – but they are unlikely to challenge the main contenders.

The betting is headed by Hear Our Voice, a choir formed by those affected by the Post Office scandal, but while they have had widespread support so far in the competition, it’s far from certain that they will win the final now they are up against some far more slick and polished performers.

The outstanding alternative to the favourites are Swiss dance troupe The Blackouts, whose stunning LED performance looks worthy of a stage in Las Vegas.

Dance acts have a strong record on Britain’s Got Talent, stretching back to one of the show’s best-known winners, Diversity, who won the third series in 2009.

Voters have embraced non-British acts far more in recent years, with Norwegian comedian Viggo Venn winning in 2023, while Ghanaian dance duo Abigail & Afronitaaa came third last year.

The Blackouts have a similar profile to 2013 winners Attraction, a Hungarian shadow theatre act who had also appeared on the German version of the show, Das Supertalent, before tackling BGT.

The group overcame unexpected issues to get through their semi-final as a late change to the running order saw them asked to perform earlier than expected. Despite a hurried preparation they were still able to earn Amanda Holden’s Golden Buzzer to progress to the final.

Singer Sydnie Christmas won last year, but this year’s crop of solo crooners led by Stacey Leadbetter and Vinnie McKee are not likely to come out on top.

Youth acts go down a storm in the early rounds of the show but have not had much success in finals, although guitarist Olly Pearson and gymnastic dancer Binita will have their supporters.

Magician may have more tricks up his sleeve

Comedians have an excellent recent record in this competition, with Lost Voice Guy, Axel Blake and Viggo Venn all successful in the last six series, but this year’s funny man Joseph Charm is not up to that level.

Instead, magician Harry Moulding could be the one to pull a rabbit out of the hat and challenge for the BGT crown.

After some jaw-dropping tricks in his first two performances, Moulding is planning something even more mind-blowing for the final and could have a chance of emulating 2016 winner Richard Jones.

He is worth consideration at 13/2 to win the show but looks a really solid bet to make the top three at 13/10 with bet365.
