The Festive season is here, with Christmas tunes playing on all the radio stations in the UK. Many are wondering which artist will claim number one in the charts on Christmas Day, and UK betting sites have already revealed the betting odds, with Wham! the current favourites. They are hoping to be crowned number one on Christmas Day for the third time in a row.
Here are all the favourites in the running for the 2025 Christmas Number 1.
2025 UK Christmas Number 1 Betting Odds
Wham! have already won the battle to be UK Christmas number one twice. Despite “Last Christmas” being released in 1984, it didn’t become Christmas number one until 2023, then managing consecutive years as Christmas number one after also claiming top spot in 2024.
It would be a huge moment if “Last Christmas” was named as Christmas number one for three consecutive years. With their odds currently 1/6, it looks like betting sites are confident that it will happen. Wham! had odds of 4/9 before, and with them shortening even more, it definitely feels like the number 1 spot is theirs to lose.
Those doing their best to challenge Wham! include Kylie Minogue (7/1), Mariah Carey (16/1), and Taylor Swift (20/1).
Despite Minogue being 7/1 at the bookies, recent reports suggest that she is currently leading the charts when it comes to sales so far. Her single XMAS is currently 7,000 units ahead Wham’s Last Christmas.

Kylie Minogue & Mariah Carey battle Wham! for 2025 Christmas Number One
“Last Christmas” is the heavy favourite, but Kylie Minogue is attempting to cause an upset with her newly released Christmas song “XMAS”. The artist has apparently been working on this song for around a decade, and “XMAS” is apparently inspired by Village People’s “YMCA”. The single will be on her Christmas album “Kylie Christmas Fully Wrapped”.
Meanwhile, Mariah Carey will be hoping she can be the Christmas number one with her festive classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. The song has been one of the Christmas tunes played most often since its release, but despite its popularity, people may be surprised to hear that it’s never managed to be number one on Christmas Day in the UK. Other big names involved include Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, with the latter claiming the title of Christmas number one back in 2017 with “Perfect”.
What day is 2025 Christmas number one announced?
The Christmas number one is typically announced on the Friday before Christmas. With Christmas Day falling on a Thursday in 2025, it is expected that the 2025 Christmas number one will be announced on Friday 19th December. It is always announced by BBC Radio 1, which you can listen to on the radio or via the BBC Sounds App.
