Ahead of the international James Bond Day, which falls on the 5th of October, we have analysed all the past Bonds and Bond girls to find out who are the most attractive Bonds and Bond girls according to the golden ratio of facial attractiveness.
Machine learning techniques were applied to evaluate the facial aesthetics of both James Bond actors and Bond Girls based on balanced facial proportions and symmetry of specific areas of the face in all of the different Bond films.
Since most of the actors portraying James Bond appeared in multiple Bond movies, it was possible for them to appear on the list on multiple occasions. However, the analysis still determines in which movie they were considered as the most attractive.
According to an analysis of Bonds in 25 James Bond films (1962 – 2021), the top 10 most attractive 007s are:
According to an analysis of 25 James Bond films (1962 - 2021) and 24 (main) Bond girls, the top 10 most attractive Bond girls are:
Methodology:
- Span of the analysis: 1962 - 2021, 25 James Bond movies
- This project aimed to rank James Bond actors and Bond Girls based on their facial aesthetics, using the golden ratio as a measure of attractiveness. By analysing images sourced from each James Bond movie, rankings were made based on facial attractiveness
- The final result was a score from 0 to 10 with 10 being the highest
- Data Collection: For each James Bond movie, images of Bonds and Bond girls from given movies were selected. These images were sourced from official archives and reputable media websites to ensure high-quality and relevant visuals for analysis.
- Data Transformation: To maintain the quality of the analysis, any images with low resolution or unclear facial features were filtered out. The cleansing process was executed using machine learning models, ensuring only suitable images were retained for both the James Bond actors and Bond Girls actresses.
- Machine Learning Analysis: The core of the project lies in applying machine learning techniques to evaluate the facial aesthetics of both James Bond actors and Bond Girls. Using OpenCV and MTCNN for image processing, each face was analysed based on the golden ratio, a classical measure of beauty. The process involved: Measuring the face’s length and width to assess the ideal ratio of approximately 1.6, indicating balanced facial proportions, dividing the face into three segments (from the forehead hairline to between the eyes, between the eyes to the bottom of the nose, and from the bottom of the nose to the chin) and evaluating symmetry to further determine facial attractiveness
- The analysis was facilitated by an OpenCV Neural Network model customised for face detection, allowing to apply advanced techniques in facial analysis
