Hosts to maintain unbeaten record under Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel’s tenure in charge of England started with a routine 2-0 win over Albania on Friday at Wembley.

The Three Lions made a decent start to their World Cup qualifying campaign, but some fans will have left the national stadium with a sense of disappointment.

Tuchel promised to bring back excitement after replacing Gareth Southgate, but Albania’s tactics made life difficult for the hosts.

While Latvia will deploy similar tactics on Monday, they are nowhere near as good as Albania. The Red and Blacks played in League B in the UEFA Nations League, whereas Latvia were in Pot 4 in League C.

England have scored at least two goals in their last four games in all competitions and Latvia have conceded at least four goals in three of their previous eight away matches, so expect the hosts to enjoy a routine night at the office.

Bellingham out to impress on home soil

Plenty of England players are on trial at the minute, with Tuchel yet to decide on his best XI as he tries to get to know his players.

At the full-time whistle after Latvia, he was critical of Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden’s contribution on the ball, but Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham is rarely below par.

The former Borussia Dortmund ace has got 11 goals and 11 assists for Real this season in 38 appearances, and he should see plenty of the ball against Latvia.

Bellingham registered three shots, two of which found the target, against Albania, and he has the ability to get forward and support captain Harry Kane in attack.

Opportunity knocks for fringe players

Domestically, Jarrod Bowen and Morgan Rogers are two of the first names on the teamsheets for West Ham and Aston Villa, respectively.

For England they are a little further down the pecking order, but the criticism of Rashford and Foden and an injury to Anthony Gordon opens up the door for the pair.

If Tuchel does want to look at fresh faces, Bowen should be at the front of the queue. The Hammers ace has eight goals and five assists on his record this season in 27 games and he would provide a more direct threat than Foden.

Rogers may need to start on the bench, but the former Middlesbrough man has been a revelation under Unai Emery at Villa.

He has 12 goals and seven assists to his name this season and he should have no issue making an impact off the bench at worst.

In defence, Newcastle’s Dan Burn did himself proud on his England debut and has the ability to cause further problems at set-pieces.

Burn had three shots during the win over Albania and hit the crossbar, so he will once again be the target from any corners and free-kicks, and England should get plenty.
