Lionesses can turn on the style for final return
England Women’s journey to the Euro 2025 semi-finals has been far from smooth, but their clash with Italy at the Stade de Geneve looks like a more favourable match-up for the defending champions.
Sarina Wiegman’s side have shown flashes of brilliance in attack, scoring 13 goals across four games, but defensive frailties have cost them, particularly in a 2-1 defeat to France and a chaotic 2-2 draw with Sweden that went to a dramatic shootout.
Fortunately for the Lionesses, Italy don’t pose the same level of threat. Ranked 13th in the world, the Azzurre aren’t in the same league as recent opponents like France (3rd) or Sweden (6th). Even the Netherlands, ranked 10th, were swept aside 4-0 by England earlier in the tournament.
Italy’s record in recent major competitions doesn’t inspire much confidence. They failed to qualify for the last Women’s Euros and exited in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup. At these finals, they’ve won two of four games: a narrow 1-0 against Belgium (ranked 19th) and a 2-1 victory over Norway (16th).
Andrea Soncin’s team are well-organised and disciplined. Norway only managed one shot on target in their quarter-final clash, but they’re also limited in attack. England, with their superior firepower and experience, should have enough to break them down and secure a spot in the final.

Walsh can find the Italian target
England Women are positive enough at these finals and getting their shots away, firing 70 in all, a total bettered only by Spain.
Alessia Russo and Lauren James lead the way with 12 shots apiece and will be a constant threat to Italy’s back four.
But the deeper the Italians drop, the greater the chance of England Women’s midfielders coming to the party.
Keira Walsh, the absolute heartbeat of Wiegman’s team, is having a decent tournament after a non-existent effort against France.
Paradoxically, her only goal of the finals came against Les Bleues, one of two shots on target she has had so far and one of four efforts overall.
Back Walsh to have one on target against Italy in Geneva.

Russo to lead the way in Bet Builder bonanza
Russo, as pointed out, is a constant menace and with England Women doing much of the attacking, expect the Arsenal forward to be an influence.
With 12 efforts pinged off over the first four games, three on target, take her to have over 1.5 on target as the first part of a three-leg Bet Builder.
The second component is at least two goals in the first half. England Women’s four games have produced 10 first-half goals, so they are both quick out of the blocks but also at their most vulnerable in the early stages of matches.
Finally, throw in the England Women – England Women Half-Time-Full Time Result.
This is the type of opposition that the champions should flourish against. They were 2-0 up at the interval against the Dutch and won well, 4-0 up against the Welsh at the break and won even more convincingly, and can put Italy to bed early.
