No Christmas joy for Gunners
With Manchester City expected to beat West Ham earlier on Saturday, Arsenal will likely need to win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium if they are to be top at Christmas for the third time in the last four seasons.
That will ramp up the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side and their recent record when visiting Everton is not great, as they have only won one of their last seven trips to the blue half of Merseyside, with both meetings last season ending level.
The Gunners are also winless in their last three Premier League away games, drawing at Sunderland and a Chelsea side that played the majority of the match with 10 men before most recently losing at Aston Villa.
All that should give Everton confidence that they can at least avoid defeat on Saturday, as should their solid record since swapping Goodison Park for Hill Dickinson Stadium over the summer, as they have only lost twice in nine matches at the venue across all competitions.

Gunners to make another slow start on the road
Arsenal boast the best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding just 10 goals in 16 matches, but their backline will be depleted for this game, with Cristhian Mosquera, Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White all injured.
Given that growing list of absentees, it is unsurprising that the Gunners have been conceding with more regularity over recent weeks, with seven of the goals they have shipped being let in across their last six league games.
In each of their last three top-flight away fixtures – at Sunderland, Chelsea and Aston Villa – Arsenal have conceded the first goal, and that trend can continue against Everton, who have opened the scoring in five of their last seven games.
David Moyes’ side were certainly quick off the mark in their last home fixture, taking less than two minutes to get their noses in front against Nottingham Forest, a match they eventually won 3-0.
Trossard Arsenal’s away-day specialist
Arsenal’s patched up defence has kept just one clean-sheet across their last six Premier League games and they are liable to concede again on Saturday, but they should also score, something they have done in 21 consecutive matches across all competitions since, ironically, their last trip to Merseyside – August’s 1-0 loss at Liverpool.
If the Gunners do score, it is likely winger Leandro Trossard plays a key role, as he has nine goal involvements, scoring six himself, in his last nine away league appearances.
Trossard also has previous when visiting Everton, as he has scored in Arsenal’s last two away matches against the Toffees, although both of those were played at Goodison Park.
With Arsenal’s defensive concerns growing, teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly is expected to earn a recall to the starting XI and is a leading candidate to be booked.
Lewis-Skelly has only featured in 195 minutes of Premier League football this term, but he has been cautioned twice, adding to the seven yellows and two reds he picked up across all competitions last season.
